Professors in the humanities and social sciences make far less than you think. I'd be pretty surprised if Nick made over 60k. I make in the mid-60s with summer teaching.

Yeah, professors make very little money relative to their education level unless they get an appointment with a professional school (e.g. law or business, which some polisci professors do get). I have a couple other minor sources of income though. Also, living in the Midwest is pretty cheap.

Midwest is extremely cheap. Only issue is car expenses, which level the playing field for the large coastal cities.

I know many young professionals in Boston and NYC that live alone.

I won't be doing any more online dating until I reach acceptable Henry17 standards of living - having my own place, nice car, high-paying job, fantastic wardrobe, good-looking and being ALPHA.

I would think that living alone would matter 1000x as much to a girl as having a nice car, and justifiably so. How much time is a girl going to spend in your car?

But having a roommate is going to present significant and sustained logistical issues. My ex-wife refused to spend a single night at my place while I had roommates, and this was over a span of almost four years. I think having a roommate past the age of about 27 would be the equivalent of not having a car at all (assuming you don't live in NYC or another city where few people drive).

I live alone. But it doesn't matter if you can't get a girl to come to your place :-(

Bleh, I don't think I'm truly into either of the girls I'm dating now- and moving forward more would just not be worth it. They both are actively hinting at being exclusive.

Of course the girl I'm actually interested in (attractive redhead on my softball team) is way too hot for me. Luckily I think she somehow sees me as valuable, so I might try to swing that.

How much are you spending per date on average?

All my first dates are drinks, usually at a mid-slightly upscale bar. Average of 2.5 drinks per person (I think every date has been her 2, me 3 with maybe one or two exceptions), so $35-50.

All my second dates are dinner, usually at a low end nice restaurant. These range anywhere from $50-100 dollars with a median of around $70, depending on wine and stuff. Am I spending too much here? I don't do second dates these days unless I think things are good.

I aim for third dates to be me cooking dinner at my place (I like to cook). This usually costs me around $60 dollars. Sometimes my dates are moved back one (2 drink dates, then dinner date, etc.)

When you consider that I've been going out probably ~3x a week for the past two months, that **** adds up, especially since I have not that much to show for it (well, at least from my POV).

I'm in Tampa, definitely cheaper than D.C. I don't know what your budget is, but I'm definitely not looking to spend more than 50 on the first 2 dates.

Getting to date 2 is actually a pretty big accomplishment for me. I'm usually one and done.

I actually haven't dated at all in the past month. Hasn't been a priority for me. I'm taking 4 days off from work at the beginning of May, and I'll be joining Match.com, so hopefully I'll have some successful TRs in the near future.

My current roommates are all mid-30's to early 40's. My last set of roommates were a guy my age (mid-40s) who owned the house, and two younger guys in their mid-to-late-20's.

I really don't know how much it would cost to get my own place, because I'd have to start by buying furniture--currently, I don't own any! After my divorce, I let my wife keep every stick of it, for the kids...and because I was moving cross-country, so it was much easier to leave it behind. I got my own place when I moved back home, and furnished it with second-hand stuff from CL. When I decided to leave my hometown again for a better paying job, it so happened that my niece decided at the same time to move back our hometown, and she was also in need of furniture, so I just gave her all my CL stuff, and I came to Minnesota with no furniture.

And since I'm planning to move out of Minnesota in the next year or two (or whenever they finally get casino gaming up and running in MA or NH), no sense buying furniture now to face the added expense of moving it later, when I can just move into someone else's furnished house. Place I'm in now has an in-ground swimming pool, a nice grill on the patio, an Olhausen pool table and jukebox in the game room, a 73" tv in the home theater, beautiful furniture, enormous kitchen, attached garage, cable and wifi included--I'm living the Life of Reilly over here, for much less than a barren 1BR 1BA park-on-the-street apartment!

During the day time, for a date in DC, i'd say the National Zoo, Air and Space museum, Smithsonian. (Its all free!!!!) I don't think a date necessarily needs to be about you spending money on her. But, if lunch time comes around, offer to pay for her meal.

the "I showed this to all my friends" line in the apology was amazing.

Only spent a couple of monthes in dc but waterfront was good, sequoia had good food and that tony whatever place before it was always packed.

W hotel rooftop bar was a good spot for a date i guess. And a bar inside the ritz.

Went to mcfaddens twice but both times seemed too fratty and douchebaggy.
