Spoiler:
I let myself be hungry during the day instead.
I thought in general it was bad to eat much at night though. I know when I was younger and used to eat often at night it made me gain weight. Sometimes even know I do wait until many hours after waking up to have my first meal of the day, but I thought that was a negative thing, not a positive one. I will try to read more about the intermittent fasting, I've only read enough to get a few impressions, which could be incorrect.

When you eat, how often you eat, whether or not you exercise, and even what you eat all make a negligible difference in how much weight you lose compared to the difference between how many calories you consume vs the calories you burn. If you burn 2,400 calories a day doing nothing but playing poker, you'll lose weight if you eat 2,000 calories of pizza a day, even if some/most of those calories are at night.

I eat about 400-500 calories for breakfast when I get up, another 400 at lunch around 2, and 800-1,000 for dinner, but never eat dinner before 9 or even 10 so I don't have to worry about getting hungry and eating more before bed. That's no magic formula, just what works for me. Sometimes I'm really hungry before 2 or between 6 and 9pm, but I don't really care.

I don't actually know what you look like, but based on your description, you'd probably improve your overall physical appearance more by fixing your teeth than by going to the gym religiously or losing weight. And I have very poor posture too, but there's no reason that should be apparent from one's online profile pics.

There are plenty of women that like slightly chubby guys. No one likes a guy with bad teeth.

This. Fad diets are an utter waste of time as they do not work. The only equation that leads to fat-reducing weight loss is consuming fewer calories than you burn.

I did think my holding a puppy would be a positive, but I guess not. That picture was not posed for any particular use, I was just at a Xmas party where the kids got a puppy and I was playing with it.
Oh Eeyore,

All I'm saying is you can fix these things to make a more appealing photo. So what ifyou have bad posture? For a picture you can stand up straight, shoulders back and down, chest forward. Do that and it will look great.

Squinting: Close your eyes and open them just as photo is being taken. Your eyes will be open. Or take a pic in shades...cool.

You're not fat, but taking a picture sitting like that isn't flattering. Solution, stand up.

These are easy fixes Mr. Doom and Gloom. Either do them or not, if you want a picture that isn't a swipe face...whatever that is.

I'm not saying I can't do any of those things, but I never would have thought of them before. Just letting you know why my pictures are the way they are. I certainly will try, but I'm skeptical that it will suddenly be easy to get a good picture of me. You have guessed correctly that I am not an optimist by nature.

If all this results in my getting lots of swipes, and even lots of dates, I will be thrilled.

Of course, it still wouldn't invalidate my earlier complaints about the current state of online dating. If only men who have good photos online get any contacts, well, that is a superficial reason. My photos weren't any better in the past, and I was very successful in dating online. And while dating someone who was attracted by my looks sounds better than sitting home alone, I'd be happier to date someone who was attracted by my wit and charm (such that it is).

And while I'm at it, basic limit poker will always be the best / fastest action / most interesting / most fun form of poker. No limit is boring, PLO too gambly, and these new games in the mixed games are ridiculous. HARUMPH!

Get outta my head, dude.

I never play no limit, just an occasional tourny and low limit because the risk vs. reward is so low.

On your weight loss issues, maybe get a physical to check for any problems.

That hungry thing at bedtime sometimes indicates blood sugar problems.

Or a thyroid problem. Many older men get that too.

If you do have diabetes or a thyroid deficiency, losing weight is difficult til that is addressed.

Josie, girl you should write a book!

chillrob, I went from 210 at my heaviest down to 145. As others have said, the key is eating fewer calories. BUT its really easy to eat 1,000 calories of pizza, without getting full (or getting hungry soon after). It's really hard to eat 1,000 calories of vegetables with a small amount of fat/protein mixed in. You get full more quickly and hungrier later because it takes longer to digest. I switched from fast food lunches, to these gigantic salads I would make myself, and the weight came off pretty readily. They were the same amount of calories, but I wouldn't get hungry until dinner time and so wouldn't need to snack.

One thing that's key is that you actually have to count calories, which can be a pain. I know I felt like losing weight was impossible until I started counting and figured out I was eating way more than I thought I was.

Josie left out the part of claudia dealing the wsop every summer, maybe she still does according to Vince who also deals it and now works in the Rio sportsbook instead. so she was about to return to NYC anyway but of course i took it hard because i hadnt been with anyone else in years. we did go on a few walks and movies which i never do with anyone because im so broke i grind a ton of hours to earn my living, which isnt much more than $30k a year.

if u dont have a lot of money u will always have teeth pulled over paying for fillings or implants to save on costs. so i have a few holes, like 3-4 in my mouth but its superficial to judge someone for this. as long as it wasnt caused by drugs, it shouldnt be big deal

I’m not sure everyone agrees with your last paragraph. Most early dates and getting the date are typically very superficial. If you have missing front teeth it’s going to be an issue.

Well I didn’t want to give to much info out about Claudia...like her name. 🤫 but yes she also dealt poker.

I left out a ton of stuff! Remember Claudia’s hike w Poker Grump?

Hey, you should take a picture of ChillRob for his online profile, if you’re still in Vegas.

Yes see Tbc’s blog for many details.

FYI I WAS going to tell them about Brittany. Ever hear if she’s still alive?

Oops, you're not the person I was thinking of who attacked someone else recently, sorry about the mistake.

I still think that was a rude and unhelpful comment though.

I didn't come here asking for any advice at all. A guy was talking about being sad about a meeting falling through. Someone else basically replied with "lol, don't worry about it, just go on your other 5 dates you have this week". So I had to inform the second guy that it's not like that for everyone. Then lots of people decided to give me advice while knowing little to nothing about me. Most people have been trying to be helpful though. A few people have been rude and unhelpful, like you were with your comment. There is nothing for me to "snap out of". People have been offering me unsolicited advice, and I have responded.

FWIW I lost about 40 lbs in my early 40s and another 30 in my late 40s after I'd put about 10 back on.
