I'm in a similar situation b/c I'm visiting Mexico City in a few weeks but am already in contact with a handful of girls I'd like to meet up with. Normally I'll just try and chat a bit after about 5-6 days, usually with some mildly amusing anecdote like "man it's cold as **** here, -20 degrees, can you believe that?".

That duration seems to be the sweet spot for maintaining some interest while not being too distant or too chatty. A few of them like to chat more even if it's just trivial banter, so I'll follow their lead and fire off a message after 3 days if they haven't already.

If she seems like the type that wants more convo, then she'll probably make it known by initiating herself a few times. In that case, I'd try to initiate a few times myself so it doesn't seem like it's always on her. Otherwise I think over 2-3 weeks you can probably get away chatting with her 3-4 times preferably with something not super boring like "how have you been?".
