this thread inspired me to try out okcupid. i've been getting a ton of profile views and messaged a few of the girls. my question: when messaging back and forth, what's the best strategy to getting the phone number? in one case i've been chatting with a 7 or 8 and while she'll always shoot back a message her response is never longer than a sentence (it's been mostly about her dog's poop; is this some kind of "gate keeper" convo, to weed out certain guys??). do you just go ahead, break the flow of the conversation, and push for numbers / a date or keep up with the trivial back and forth and see if it naturally evolves?

If she's just responding with very short responses, then 95+% she's not interested. She's just being polite and would feel bad not responding for some reason or she's holding you in reserve for the very rare occassions that she might not find someone better.

If you ask her out or for her number, I'd guess she doesn't bother responding almost all the time. It's worth a shot I guess. It's better than wasting your time responding when she doesn't engage back.

yeah, i thought that was probably the case; that she isn't interested. i'm just confused because some of her responses were basically instantaneous and one was basically first thing in the morning. also, i figure these types of girls get hundreds if not thousands of messages and probably don't have time to respond just to be polite.

i think i'll transition the conversation - hopefully not too abruptly - into her number / meeting up and see what happens.

Looking forward to them

Started talking to a girl last night. She suggested we meet after the first msg. Going out tomorrow night. Pretty excited for this one. Rarely are girls really funny when they message and willing to initiate the meeting. Now just gotta hope she looks like her profile pics.

Sigh, feel like I'm the only one here having crap dates.

Last weekend, met up with a cute girl for drinks in Cambridge. She was thinner/better-looking than her pics, but a fairly terrible personality other than sense of humor. Hated animals, very stubborn, gave the wait staff **** for not carrying certain types of mixers for cocktails, and emphasized that she does not care to get physical with a guy whatsoever until in a relationship (and by physical I mean even kissing). And she's in her mid-30's. So that won't be happening.

Also, what is it with girls spending time trashing their exes on dates? I never even bring any of mine up, but apparently I'm just inducing some sort of venting and/or friend-zoning.

Which is worse, bad dates or no dates?

When I wasn't in a very good place socially, I think I went about 9 months without a date. Naturally that was when I was making the most bank I ever have from poker.

Was this supposed to be rhetorical? I could see an argument either way and I'd go with no dates myself.

lol whenever a girl says she isn't going to have sex with me I always laugh because I know for a fact I am going to have sex with that girl and I also know she's kind of a dumbass.

Even though I know girls who do that are idiots who usually don't mean it, growing up with a lot of feminist friends that would scream RAPE if you breathed on them wrong, it just insta-turns me off regardless if they're playing mind games or not.

There's usually a reason attractive females in their mid-30s are single.

I was able to convert the girl from my OP into a date next week. The five word replies grew in length after I found something in common with her. It looks like it's going to be a weekday affair. I'm a recovering alcoholic and therefore don't drink. Does that mean coffee is my only option?

You can also do Hookah, most of which are BYOB. Less odd to not drink in that environment.

From a pregnancy risk standpoint, is it ok to have unprotected sex with a 34 year old women?

Pretty much what I meant. I'd heard it was pretty unlikely for a women that age to get pregnant naturally

Id say your almost always in the clear over age of 36, 34 is slightly more risky

No. How old are you?

Dude, women can easily get pregnant up to 40. Then it starts tailing off, but I wouldn't feel comfortable unless she were 45 or older.
