Every girl I've met who claims to be 5'9 is shorter than me, and I'm 1/8th inch less than 5'9 so I feel like I have to put 5'10 or 5'11 in.

This. If I put 5 11 people would think I was 5 9.

Why do tall girls even bother saying they're fine with going out someone the same height as them, or an inch shorter or taller, then next the guy for that reason? I've been on Match dates where their height range was 6'0-6'8, they were 5'11/6'0, I'm 6'0, we go out, they wear flats, then say I'm just much too short for them.

so much truth to this. i've met a few girls who claimed 5'8"-5'9" but were actually roughly 2 inches shorter than that. my profile used to say i'm 5'10" (i'm prob 5'10.5") and i'd get a lot of comments to the tune of "no way, you're at least 6 feet". i imagine this effect is amplified by the fact that most guys who say they're 5'10" are actually in the 5'6" to 5'8" range. so now i just say i'm 6'0" and don't even feel like i'm deceiving anyone.

Never knew these crazy height issues existed

Spoiler:
brag: I'm 6'3"
variance: the height tends to attract tall girls

I'm 5'11" and list 5'11" on my profile and also comment "I hold the distinction as the only 5'11" guy on the site who isn't listing himself as 6'+". I figure it's kinda funny to poke fun at the height distortions going on in most profiles, and also let's them know I'm actually 5'11" and not 5'9". I'm kinda torn between doing that or just listing myself at 6'1" (where they'll be expecting me to be 5'11" and also I'll show up in searches for 6'+ whereas I'd be cut out before).

BTW what's the reasoning behind tall women lying about their height? e.g my 5'9 friends who tell me they are 5'10, and are absolutely insistent even after I point out that were they 5'10 they'd be taller than me! After the age of 23 or so, seems like people should have a pretty good idea about their height, I understand guys wanting to lie about it, or really tall ladies underreporting their height, but ???

I think it's fair to put whatever you are in shoes, which would push you into the 6-foot range where you'll probably appear in more searches.

Had my first flake out tonight. Cancelled two hours prior to meeting due to illness. I said no problem & wished her well. She pushed to re-arrange straight away & I agreed for next week.

Normal & just bad luck or is this going to be a waste of time? Any experiences?

I'm guessing it's 100% girl dependent..

Seems fine if she wanted to reschedule.

If she asked to reschedule immediately, I would believe her and go ahead with it. My 2nd ever online date flaked on me the day of citing illness, but we rescheduled for the next week with no issue, and ended up dating for three months.

I don't think the height thing is as witty or funny as it initially seems. I'd rather put 6'0 and get more hits.

Someone should just create profiles with the same guy using 5'8 and 6'1 to get some raw number differences into this. Different angles and different pictures with the same interests but worded differently should be enough for people to not realize what's going on unless they're looking real hard.

Maybe their doctor/nurse measured them wrong, or they measured it themselves and are actually convinced they're whatever height they're claiming. No reason for them to believe you're more correct than they are without some sort of proof I suppose.

My 5'10 friend kept insisting he was only 5'8 despite being noticeably taller than me, and his reason was that every time he's been measured they told him he was 5'8. Every time I'm measured (without shoes) I'm between 5'8 1/2 and 5'9. So I'm pretty sure I'm right, and he's pretty sure he's right.

I posted this before, but it's worth a repost: go to Match and search for girls that are 5'5" and below. Click on a girl who is around your attractiveness range and immediately go down to where it says "About her date". One of the first options is height. See what they put as their minimum height. If it's a couple inches taller than you, skip it and move on. I found a surprising number of women (usually the ones that are like 5'2" and under) who have 5'5" listed as an acceptable height. I'm 5'8" online (5'7" IRL) and hide any girl that has 5'10" as the minimum height and usually even 5'9". One huge caveat is that getting any responses on Match is pretty hard.

A guy like you would probably do well there and the chicks are much better looking than on POF.

I think that's only if you want an early termination from what you originally agreed to, and paid for.

Advantages to Match:

- I can confirm that the girls on Match are much, much better looking than on POF, and somewhat better looking than on OKC.

- I've found that a lot more girls on Match are willing to "wink" at guys they are interested in, compared to the girls messaging you first on OKC (or flirting on POF). Messaging a girl who has winked at you will get a >90% response rate.

Disadvantages to Match:

- A lot of girls have really boring profiles. Of course this is also true on POF, but at least on POF, the girls have very short, boring profiles. On Match, a high proportion of girls write profiles that ramble on forever without saying anything.

- Also on Match, there's really not much to go on in most profiles about attitudes toward sex & religion, which are important filters I use on OKC.

Why do you think I'd be a match for Match?

My impression of Match from looking into the various dating sites was that it gives you this large number of women near you who match your search criteria, but many of these women aren't actually paying members. So when you try to contact them, they won't get the message. Instead, she will get a notice that you are trying to contact her and she will have to renew her membership in order to read the message and correspond with you. So you think there is this big pool of intriguing prospects and it's not quite as it seems. The misleading nature of this practice makes me want to stay away.

Good-looking and tall. You might have issues with the education level since you have no degree. I'd offset it by mentioning in your profile that you plan to complete school for <whatever study>.

In my experience, most girls who aren't paying members say so in their profile. But I've had low response rates from this site overall...most girls I meet through Match contact me first.
