Ha, really skinny arms are one of my biggest turn-offs. Like Emily Mortimer's character on 30 Rock, I always assume that those girls would break if I tried to touch them.

Nick you would love rural RI/CT.

I'm having trouble picturing "rural RI". Like near Foxwoods?

Ya I don't like super skinny arms, I like a little muscle, maybe some fat, but you can also get the best idea if she's fat/overweight

All,

Not sure who mentioned north face as a negative, but in NorCal it would be totally standard for just about any age/income person to wear a north face jacket.

I gave this a shot and I went on a date this last Friday. She was 200+ lbs and a really ****ty person. Pretty much what I expected.

Yeah I almost pulled the trigger on it Sunday when one of the 4 that popped up looked decent (there's no info, you just have to guess from a scrambled pic) and suggested a cool bar, but I chickened out at the last sec.

The good news is that I got a response from little spoon (Cuelo?) this afternoon, but it's a new one for me. Usually my approach is find something in their profile that I relate to and comment on it or ask a question about it, i.e. he mentioned South Park so I told him what my favorite episode was and asked him what his is. In this guy's he just came back with a quote from the episode I mentioned and nothing else. I don't really know if this means he's interested or what -- I have to think it does, because why bother responding at all if you're not? I think the elite play here is to respond with another quote from the show and just a short thing to sort of try and start a conversation, but it's also a slippery slope wrt looking desperate given his play.

knives,

You seem to be confusing **** online dating with hetero online dating.

Something can be standard and a negative at the same time. The average person is ugly, stupid, an not an efficient flash point as to how to maximize life EV.

North Face jackets are painfully unstylish. Would not recommend for any dates or anything dating related.

Dean,

Tons of people here (NorCal) are super into outdoorsy **** and are always wearing North Face/Patagonia/Whatever type jackets. Yes, they are not going to score high on the PUA cocktail lounge attire scale, but it is totally fine if they are in the market for sporty outdoorsy chicks.

If you live somewhere where it's cold outside and you wear a NorthFace for a casual date, I really don't see the problem

It's not really that simple -- yeah Grindr exists and if you're looking for that it's like shooting fish in a barrel. But on a site like OKC I try to lean towards the hetero style because a lot of good ones will get turned off instantly if they suspect you're just in it for a hookup, even if they are just in it for a hookup too. They want to be loved for their intellect and all that ****, plus on the off chance that you can make them interested where at first they didn't like you based on looks, it gets you in the door in a spot you couldn't have had if you take the Grindr approach.

Unless they're obvious about their intentions after a few messages, I just try to get it to a live date so I can get a better read and go from there.

I see that, but most first dates are in the bar/restaurant urban setting and you gotta have better presentation skills than a North Face jacket for those occasions. I guess it was questioned as a OKC cover pic where you can get away with it if you're trying to project an outdoorsy vibe, but it feels suboptimal to me no matter what.

Outdoorsy scene isn't really my thing so maybe I'm mistaken on this. I definitely wouldn't be caught dead wearing a North Face jacket in NYC though.

I'm sure the first thing a chick is gonna be thinking when she first meets you if you're wearing North Face is "OMG! He's wearing North Face!!!!! Get me the f--- outta here!!!!"

If she has an inkling of fashion sense she'll think he dresses like a scrub, that's for sure.

Given the abundance of options most girls have I think it could very easily be the difference between getting a date or not with a bunch of girls. Again, maybe the impact isn't really that big with the outdoors crowd but it's just so so far from being a good look.

I agree that you should dress to match the area/culture you live in, but ultimately, it doesn't matter that much.

What doesn't matter much?

Wardrobe is hugely important and is likely the easiest way to snap increase your attractiveness if you do it right.

"I see that, but most first dates are in the bar/restaurant urban setting and you gotta have better presentation skills than a North Face jacket for those occasions."

Two places I've lived, SF and Colorado, there are just tons of casual bar/restaurants where hot chicks would find it completely normal for a dude to wear that kind of jacket on a casual first date.

I agree that it would look super dorky in a Manhattan cocktail lounge.

knives,

Sorry for mistakenly stereotyping you. I perhaps jumped to conclusions based on your Super Bowl rando-banging plans, sorry.

Jeez...if wearing a blazer is too formal, and wearing a north face jacket is too casual, what exactly are you picturing as correct bar/lounge attire?

I think what's most important is how well the clothes fit you. I don't really notice much what a guy wears, but I'm also not really into fashion.

OK, I'm comfortable deferring to you on the subject since I have never lived in either of those places.

Any jacket that looks decent. The middle ground between north face and blazer is enormous.
