Risk is a great game to judge the character of a potential mate. She is testing you.

Just be yourself and everything will be fine. Well, unless you have personality flaws. If you have personality flaws, then you should try to be someone else.

In theory yea I get why this is a bad thing to do and would make someone feel ****ty.

Otoh i can’t even count how many times a girl has wanted to do a competitive activity with me that i know ill absolutely curb stomp them in, commence the curb stomping, and it gets turned into “wow i thought we were just having fun and messing around,” having them act like it doesnt bother them but it totally does.

This happens with darts a lot. I have a board in my room and used to play competitively. I REALLY have to tone it down or i look like a prick.

One time a girl i was briefly dating wanted to play hearthstone against me. I tried to dissuade her by telling her i’ve been top 200 multiple times in north america but nope. Needless to say that activity never happened again

There's a big difference between "toning it down a bit so as to not curb stomp them completely and turn it into a horribly unfun activity", and letting them win.

I'm definitely in the Rexx crowd rather than the chillrob crowd. I've never had someone I'm seeing be genuinely upset about losing, and I've played them in games where I was very good too. The thought of throwing a game, or the thought of throwing a game being necessary, is very strange to me.

I predict the girl is a semi pro risk player and she will cackle uncontrollably as you cling to Kamchatka with your last gasps.

The next game will probably involve restraints of some sort. Be prepared.

It can depend on the activity. I used to be in the British judo team so I would tone it down when I was sparring against beginners. Neither of us benefit if I smash my opponent through the floor.

I would imagine that it's different with card games? My assumption is that there are clear right and wrong moves to make and that good players know what these are without having to think much about it. I can see a good player being in a situation where he either plays optimally or deliberately throws the match.

Csaba,

I'm sure those scenarios could and do exist, but my own experiences as a world class player are card games, and there is definitely an enormous amount of leeway, generally speaking. Again it of course depends on the specific game and on the opponent and on the in-game situation, but I've definitely never felt the need to go all-out to humiliate my opponent in the worst possible way, or else I let my opponent win.

I think It's kinda like in chess, where I'm a decidedly mediocre player, but more than good enough to destroy any semi-beginner who happily wants to play (this scenario came up last weekend, so it sprung to mind). Even for someone like me, there's a big space between "doing your absolute best" and "doing poorly enough where you will lose against said semi-beginner". And again, I'm really not very good at chess at all.

Who wants to be with someone who needs to win at a board game or any competitive game? I would find it a huge turn off if I beat a girl at a game we were playing and she became sour about it.

Regarding games and letting her win: she's basically testing you to see whether you give in to her demands of letting her win, or you are more assertive/dominant and actually try to beat her.

If you pick the former, she knows you're a pushover and she can get away with far more down the line. If you pick the latter, she knows she's with a strong, assertive, dominant man who knows how to stand up for himself and does not get pushed around.

So long story short, it's not about the game itself, she's merely testing your character. It's a **** test and anyone who picks the option of letting her win automatically fails the test.

If you have an edge on her it should be easy to control the flow of the match to make it as fun and competitive as possible for both of you. If you succeed doing so, it won't matter who won or lost.

anyone who says risk is **** can GTFO, it's GOAT.

Agree that it may take far too long, can come back to it another time maybe. Definitely going to try and win. She's really competitive too, I already brutally stomped her at table tennis, she did take it well though.

In other news:

Since when have girls been able to get away with not putting their age on Tinder?

Girls can do whatever they want on Tinder and they'll still likely get a lot of hits, but the more they do stuff like omit age the more their results will be skewed (even more) towards guys who are only interested in short-term fun.

No I mean it seems like now the functionality for them putting their age has changed, didn't their age used to always come up as a mandatory field next to their name?

AFAIK anyone (not just women) can omit their age if they have Tinder Plus

How does the system decide who to show them to if they have no age listed?

Hmm, maybe you still have to input your age, but have the option to not have it shown.

In any kind of competitive game I've played with girls where I had a massive advantage, it is pretty much like this. They'll make game losing error after game losing error. Normally, the move is to just punish the error and take the win. If I don't punish them, am I letting them win? I'm definitely taking it easy on them if I don't.

Usually I offset this advantage by playing with a deck/style/whatever that I'm not familiar with or is really bad. This works pretty well because it makes the activity fun for me, and usually the girl isn't knowledgeable enough to know what I did.

This actually happened a lot when I was streaming (not with girls though). My viewers loved to challenge me with these crapass decks, and I knew that there was basically 0% chance they'd win. So I just kinda ****ed around.
