Katherine Helmond, ‘Who’s the Boss?’ and ‘Soap’ Star, Dies at 89

On the film front, Helmond was a regular collaborator of Monty Python director Terry Gilliam, starring in three of his films, namely “Time Bandits” (1981), “Brazil” (1985), and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998). Helmond’s casting in “Time Bandits” wasn’t exactly conventional, as she got the part only after Gilliam’s original choice for the role, Ruth Gordon, broke her leg while shooting a Clint Eastwood movie.

Luke Perry was like James Dean but with all the danger and angst removed. Homogenized James Dean. I will say he was very good in the movie about Lane Frost, the rodeo guy who got killed by a bull. The bulls tend to be dangerous in their own right.

RIP Dan Jenkins...I've often told the story of growing up in the country so we didn't have sitters and since the family wanted to see The Exorcist, I got taken along when I was either 5 or 6 and had to be carried out of the theater, freaking out. Well, I also got to see Semi-Tough when I was like 10 and even though I didn't "get it" (see what I did there?) there was lots of swearing, violence and even a little nudity and that suited me just fine.

Yeah, me too. Fowler was pretty boring though, and he wasn't nearly as pretty as Joan Embery from the San Diego Zoo. I will say he was way classier than Jack Hanna, who came after.

I recall one particular episode that my friends and I laughed about for years.

Jim climbed up some steep rock to the nest of some type of condor.
Marlin: Now you see Jim grabbing the feet of the mother condor. blah blah blah (all deadpan calm comments as it appears that the condor may fly away from the nest with Jim hanging on for dear life.)

Former WWE superstar Ashley Massarro died from an apparent suicide 2 days ago at the age of 39. I loved professional wrestling for a long time and met her briefly at an autograph signing before a show about 13 years ago or so.

She was an extremely sweet person. Tough, tough beat.
