Decent 5-minute read article with more details than an AP release, but not his whole biography.
I am curious how his cases kept getting tossed when he was a teen, before he had juice.

Also, how was the family long time friends with the eventual speaker of the house? Just neighborhood friends?

The speaker of the house was his brother , the mighty midget , not a family friend .

I used to live in Somerville. There was a story attached to the owner of our local package store (who was also a raging alcoholic ironically). He'd apparently been in the Winter Hill gang and had been pulled over on a routine traffic stop and the cops found a guy trussed up in the trunk of the car. The story was that, when the cops let him out and untied him, the guy refused to press charges so they had to just let them both go.

his brother William emerged as his most vocal, steadfast advocate. First as a student at Boston College Law School, then as a freshly minted state legislator, Bill Bulger put together an influential array of supporters

William Bulger also prevailed upon old family friend John McCormack, at that time the speaker of the US House, to take an interest in his brother’s incarceration. McCormack prevailed upon the director of the US Bureau of Prisons to fly to San Francisco to visit James Bulger,

Stan Lee, the legendary writer, editor and publisher of Marvel Comics whose fantabulous but flawed creations made him a real-life superhero to comic-book lovers everywhere, has died. He was 95.
We also lost Douglas Rane, the voice of Hal in 2001 A Space Odyssey. https://www.npr.org/2018/11/12/66688...5pGNNsSbe8IscI

Ron Johnson, the star Giants running back in the early 70s also died last Saturday. Maybe the mods could update the thread title.

RIP William Goldman. You gave us a lot, but I'll always be most grateful for The Princess Bride. Thank you for not letting Hollywood **** up the movie adaptation.

+1. The Princess Bride was one of my fave childhood books, and when I heard they were making a movie out of it, I was terrified that they'd ruin it as they had some many of my other fave books.

Then I heard William Goldman wrote the screenplay, and I knew it would be OK. Turned out even better than OK.

RIP Ricky Jay

There are countless clips on youtube, but I like this Arsenio one because of the slight screwup with the mic, the fact that you can see when he switches the 8 for the 5, and just the sheer 80s-ness of it all.
