I never cared much for The Band - they had some great songs, especially on their first two albums, but the instrumentation and vocals didn't do much for me. Surprisingly, I loved RR's first solo album. His speak-singing wouldn't do it for everyone, but I liked it, kind of like Leonard Cohen.
Damn. Huge fan of the The Band. Just Garth left now.
Robbie tells a story in The Last Waltz about how when Ronnie Hawkins was recruiting him for his band he told him he wouldn't make much money but "he'd get more pussy than Frank Sinatra." He was 16 then and married a woman >30 years younger than him last year...lived well to the end.
I’ve watched about 10 minutes of Drew Carey attempting to host The Price is Right. Mostly it just throws a spotlight on how much better Bob Barker was. If it weren’t for Trebek I’d be inclined to call Barker the GOAT. RIP.
The dude from Smash Mouth - Allstar and Walking on the Sun if you are not familiar. Never saw 'em live, but musician friends of mine who toured around the same time (early 90's) said he was a good dude. I don't think he handled fame (or the backside of fame?) very well based on some YT vid's I saw of him before he left the band (2021). Wasted on stage.
Not nearly the impact personally as the Buffet guy. Seen once (in LV @ MGM Grand Garden Arena). I stole Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Lattitude (greatest hits?) album from my 'rents probably in the 80's. Couple of toe tappers there.
Charlie Robison, the Texas singer-songwriter whose rootsy anthems made the country charts until he was forced to retire after complications from a medical procedure left him unable to sing, died Sunday. He was 59.
