Saw Chuck Yeager speak a few years ago (2014?). He seemed near the end at the time. Glad I got a chance to see him while he was still with us, but his speech was more of an incoherent ramble. Still, sad to see him go.
Man, I was just getting ready to post jokingly that I did a wellness check on Deebo Samuel and then Tiny Lister...and then it turns out you really were talking about Tiny Lister. ****. RIP.
COVID-19 has unfortunately claimed Charley Pride (a month after he performed indoors on the CMA Awards after being presented a lifetime achievement award).
I had the pleasure of seeing her during the first few weeks of her revival of Chicago and she [and Bebe] were abso-effing-lutely mind-blowing. In my decade+ in Manhattan that was undoubtedly the best musical or play I saw out of several dozen. I sat in the 6th row, left, and was totally enthralled. She justly won the Tony for choreography.
I've never seen anyone move like that on the stage, or, anywhere else for that matter. And I'll never forget the way both of them danced together on stage, while singing and acting, it seemed quite impossible how amazing they could be doing this live, on stage, right in front of you. No mistakes, no mis-steps, no wrong notes.
One of the greatest to ever do it. Intricate and bizarre bars, incredible flow, your favourite MC's favourite MC etc. Madvillainy is one of the best albums ever and has zero hooks or choruses, just reliant on Madlib's beats and DOOM's wordplay. RIP
