He was a scene stealer as the hilarious gay best friend in Sex And The City. Was pretty surprised to read he was actually hetero. They probably couldn't get away with casting a straight man in that kind of role today.

Yes to the "vice versa", and I don't really follow much current TV, but I know there have been lots of controversies lately about white actors playing non-white characters, able actors playing disabled characters, hearing actors playing deaf characters, and CIS actors playing trans characters. Seems like it should be just as controversial for a straight actor to play a gay character, especially if it is one as stereotypically gay as the SITC character was.

Would never have guessed Bob Dole was still alive. I don't remember his politics, but I likely disagreed. Still impressive to make it to 98, he outlasted Norm.

Norm MacDonald's Bob Dole impersonation always killed, especially when combined with Dana Carvey's elder Bush. Pure comedy gold, some of the high points in SNL history.

Funny how the media hated the middle-aged Dole of the 70s and mid-80s but finally grew to semi-love him when he got powerful as the Senate Majority leader late.
