I wonder what Bernie Madoff thought in the end, was it worth it?

Doesn't happen too often that a white collar criminal really spends the rest of their life in prison. I know somebody who scammed investors for over 2 billion and was back out in 7.5 years. They really made an example of poor old Bernie.

I've given VERY little thought to the guy and the whole saga, but I, too, would be very interested in knowing the answer to this.

Judge Chin had not received any mitigating factor letters from friends or family testifying to Madoff's good deeds. "The absence of such support was telling," he said.

Of course. He would do it again if he could. We are talking Bernie Madoff.

He was a serial killer in a suit.

That's very possible.

But I don't think that's the case for the vast majority of people who end up in jail for a significant amount of time for something they did after already becoming wealthy. I'm sure if offered the chance, most of them would go back in time to the point where it turned from slap-on-the-wrist white collar crime to your-get-out-of-jail-card-ain't-working-here stuff. Basically deciding to stick with the $500k tax evasion that gets them probation if caught instead of the $5m that gets them behind bars.

FWIW, I'm assuming that Bernie Madoff already was regular yacht-rich before starting that Ponzi scheme to become super-yacht-rich. Based on the things I've read, some people disagree on that and think the jail worthy behavior started even before that.

I would assume he'd feel betrayed by his sons until the end.

And he'd do it all over again the same way NFL guys say they would. Bernie would feel like a sucker if he hadn't. No reason other people should have and him have not.

My word association with Tawny Kitaen is that she kicked the **** out of her MLB-pitching husband Chuck Finley.

Quote:
Actress Tawny Kitaen was charged with spousal abuse and battery after authorities said she attacked her husband, Cleveland Indians pitcher Chuck Finley, as the two were driving home from dinner

The charges were revealed Wednesday, hours before Finley was scheduled to make his season debut against the Anaheim Angels, the team for which he pitched for 14 seasons.

"He did not feel like he could make it to the ballpark, wouldn't be able to pitch," Indians general manager Mark Shapiro said of Finley.

Kitaen, meanwhile, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon but did not appear in court, prosecutors said. She told court officials she was ill and remained in a cell at the Orange County jail during her scheduled court appearance. Her arraignment was continued to April 29.

Kitaen was released several hours later and left in a limousine without speaking to reporters.

If convicted of the two misdemeanor counts, she faces a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $6,000 fine.

These are not the only charges that she is facing. According to Thursday's Orange County Register, court records show that Kitaen was arrested on Dec. 13 on a charge of malicious damage for allegedly using a key to scratch a Chevrolet Suburban on both sides after a parking dispute in Newport Beach, Calif. She will be arraigned on that charge on April 18.

She was arrested Monday night after arguing with Finley as they drove home from dinner, said Tori Richards, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney's office. Richards said Finley was driving when Kitaen began kicking him with her high-heeled shoes.

"She kicked him in the thigh, in the leg, in the arm, she grabbed his ear and twisted it," Richards said. "At one point, her high-heel shoe was on top of his foot pressing the accelerator to the ground."
