Anyone in here ever used an au pair? Interested in experiences people have with au pairs handling their children, doing some housework and overall pros and cons. Didn't Howard have one iirc?

i know leon in the lvl thread has a nanny (actually, a manny). maybe reach out to him for feedback?

Yes, we did until our second daughter was born and Mrs T quit working. Certainly helpful in terms of lifestyle but there is no substitute for hands-on parenting.

I was more or less an au pair for a few years.

Yak,

I have a number of experiences with au pairs. Big fan of them.

Did I miss somehow a piece of info along? Are you all really so uncurious? First question to Yak is: "Are you becoming a dad?"

I'm waiting for the 3rd lc thread to start, the good one.

We just assumed he was looking for a new job.

Exactly how much less content are you seeking?

Knowwhatimean .

Thanks guys, this is going to sound weird but I feel like raising children will be a total drag from time to time. Not really obv but it would be really helpfull to have someone to help out around the house and with the potential kids. Do you not regret having someone else take care of your children? Is it annoying to have someone live with you all the time? Are young people not super annoying to deal with? Id love my child to learn french so Id probably opt for a not too cute french girl (wouldnt want to have El Diablo like experiences), did any of your kids pick up on a new language? Its just a lot of questions and Im not sure if there can be a legit reason to have one without being a tiny bit of a douche (dont mean it like that), especially when you have a job which isnt super high end.

Howard, what was the main reason you had one? Time, comfort, something else?

Fwiw nobody in my household is pregnant afaik.

Who would this sound weird to? Of course it will be.

I know people who have had Spanish speaking nannies for precisely the reason you described. And it worked.

Generally sleep and sanity.

Costco, Trader Joe's, and Japanese market mochi ice cream (Imuraya, Mikawaya, and others) are all just as good or better, came first, and are less than half the price.

The advantage of the WF mochi bar is that it has a few different flavors not available at the others, and you can get just a single one to eat during shopping, or to go along with your lunch if you wish.

RE: au pair

Seems like if someone feels that an au pair is a necessity in order for them to have/raise kids because your personal time will be infringed upon due to parental duties, then maybe that person shouldn't have kids in the first place.

Seems fine if you can afford it and just want a little extra help and/or want your kid to grow up with exposure to a second language.

Patron,

Thanks for the valuable insight that **** costs more at WF than Costco, Trader Joe’s, and ethnic markets! Safeway is cheaper too!

WF also has packaged Mochi ice cream in the frozen desserts section for cheaper than the Mochi bar.

The Au Pair is going to be pretty freaked out when she gets to Yak's house and there's no kid.
11-07-2017 , 12:59 AM
El D,

This may be rare, but you seem to have missed the point. The point wasn't solely that **** is cheaper elsewhere, but that in this case, the quality is also just as good or better.

When I shop at WF, I am willing to pay higher prices, but usually for items that are superior in quality, not inferior or the same.
11-07-2017 , 01:15 AM
patron,

Fair enough, my bad. I'm just used to paying more for plenty of stuff at WF that I can get equal or better quality for cheaper elsewhere. Especially steak!
