2 seconds of googling says just download Chrome browser.
11-04-2017 , 09:37 AM
Does Google work on Safari?

LC thread,

Some of you have raved about Olympia provisions in Portland before as elite for charcuterie and stuff.

They just started carrying sausages from them at Whole Foods here. Any idea if these are especially great?

I don't know wtf mochi is but it looks overpriced.

It's a ball of rice. But it has an exotic sounding name and is sold by WF so $2 a ball is a bargain.
11-04-2017 , 02:15 PM
Did,

This mochi is filled with ice cream.
11-04-2017 , 02:18 PM
El D,

Well that's different then. How much ice cream do they squeeze into each one of those. For $2 I imagine it's quite a bit!
11-04-2017 , 02:50 PM
The mild genius of a mochi ball is the disjunction of texture, temperature and taste between the mochi and the ice cream.
11-04-2017 , 03:24 PM
The outside is pretty gross. That frog skin texture is not something I want in my mouth while I'm trying to enjoy some delicious ice cream
11-04-2017 , 03:45 PM
cs,

I'm with Howard. I love that chewy shell combined with the ice cream.
11-04-2017 , 04:02 PM
Seems pretty high on the hipster scale tbh
11-04-2017 , 04:04 PM
Grando,

Hipsters are into a lot of really tasty stuff!
11-04-2017 , 05:32 PM
grando

Mochi ice cream predates hipsters.

There have always been hipsters. Actual conversation I had in college -

Guy I Knew: What music do you like? What's your favorite band?
Me: Right now I'm listening to a lot of The Who.
Guy: They were better before they had any hits.

I first are mochi ball ice cream in 1984, but didn’t encounter my first hipster until 1992. Purely anecdotal of course.

I know the type. My similar experience: guy in my dorm: “that song used to be good, before everybody liked it.”

Me: “hmmm. Well, it seems to me that your opinion is governed solely by the opinions of others, and you’re not the independent rebel you think you are.”

Him: “**** off!”

El D,

i would gladly eat anything prepared by Olympic Provisions*, as for the sausages, try the smoked chorizo, italian, and brat. the kasekrainer is also a nice change of pace.
i haven't yet prepared them sous vide+sear ala serious eats method, but i'm sure you would have great results if you did

*(I will never say 'olympia provisions' because **** you IOC because i'm sure everyone was confused and thought Olympic Provisions was the official charcuterie of the Olympics and not named after a NW mountain range http://www.oregonlive.com/dining/ind..._change_n.html)

speaking of Olympic Provisions, the holidays are coming and it's a perfect time for their salami of the month, sausage of the month, and pate of the month gifts. i estimate 9/10 people i've gifted the salami of the month have bought the same thing for someone else after they tried it.

Red,

Thanks! I could have sworn it was Olympic provisions, so I took a pic to check it out, and then saw it was Olympia on the website and figured I had made that up in my head.

Just read about the name change now, feeling much better. And will pick up some of these sausages!
