Thx! So, kinda like a kind of toro. Based on this, you guys are good customers or the chef really liked you!

(Bottom Wakaremi section. Can't cut and paste it.)

I gotta try me some of these head toro, back toro, and jaw toro cuts someday.

oT,

How would you compare Kabuto vs SF Bay Area sushi options?
07-05-2018 , 04:14 PM
Not sure what comparisons would be fair. Our normal place isn't omakase-specific and by this point, we've been going there so long that we occasionally get some special treatment so I'm going to disregard that one.

Quality of the fish all over, to me, seems better now than even like ten years ago. It is very rare to have a clunker, might be variance, I dunno.

I think the closest comp to a place that I've actually been to is Hinata, and I think Hinata was slightly better value than Kabuto (if you don't factor in the expense of my car getting broken into while we were eating lol). SF places are likely superior for the diner right now due to the competition.

All things considered, I would take the two meals at Kabuto for the $$$ of one meal at Yoshizumi in San Mateo

oT,

Gotcha, thx. That tracks with what friends from sf and nyc who have been to kabuto have told me, which is why I’ve never bothered to go.

I won't say "dangerous" because it's lol food, but disregarding restaurants based on "I can get comparable xyz in SF or NYC...", I dunno. Seems like it would lead to running out of places to eat at or even try pretty quickly in Vegas.

Must be even tougher for the SoCal folks, yeah?

oT,

The world is full of great food to explore, and I love trying new places. That’s just not my focus when I’m in Vegas, though I do like trying stuff if it’s an especially new/unique/great experience. I probably end up missing something like half my planned meals in Vegas anyway.

Just got to Indy on house-hunting trip and saw these scooters outside the first place we stopped (Chilly Water Brewing). Haven't seen anyone ride one yet, unlike the car-share SMART cars.

Monte, you local? Brewery or neighborhood recs? Still play poker? Any thoughts on the charity games around here (please PM so we don't fall afoul of OOT's no p*ker rule.

Howard,

Take it down!

Walked into my room and this guy was staring at me. I guess he thought I was too big to eat because he decided not to pounce on me.

The kids didn't want to squash him, and I didnt want him running wild through the house sooooo....

We have a new pet!

He looks just like one I found maybe a year ago, in the exact same corner of the same room, but this one is about twice as big. Currently trying to find a small clear container that I can drill a couple holes in so I can slip him in the wifes purse while she's asleep tonight.

Tell him to worship you as a god. If he had stumbled into my sight, he would be as flat as a fritter.

OMG!
CS3!
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
OMGOMGOMG!
I would die finding that in my purse. And then kill whoever caused that.
Bjaaaaaaaa!

How did you catch it? You had to be close enough to put the glass on him. And how exactly did you turn the glass back?
God! Seriously!

HT, good luck!

The kaiju get bigger with each iteration.

lapka,
I just picked him up. I only put him in the glass afterwards so the baby doesn't try to eat him or something.

Tom,
Well I dont want to give spidey a false sense of security.
I have a feeling he'll end up being pretty flat when the wife finds him!
