That’s sort of cool, but it’s also like a big time salesmen wearing the nice watch corporate gave him at a work event - it goes with the situation you’re working/attending.

If you were having a random dinner with him and he was wearing it I would feel far more corrected lol

Lapka,

The key to good OOT drama is to never allow yourself to cool down or wait for the other person to respond. It's all about momentum! Plus, try not to attack a mod you suspect has a small weener as it never ends well.

Joe,

Congrats!!! I'd be wearing that sucker out mowing my lawn and I'm not remotely a jewellery person.

Okay, I got the scoop from my sister as to why my Nana wants her history deleted. Apparently she had a date of sorts with a widower in her card group and before the date must have done some opposition research on his deceased wife.

My Nana is a narcissist of the first order BTW, and not in the casual way, very likely legit personality disorder.

Anyway she must have googled his wife and her obituary and read it at some point. She does not know how to close tabs but just opens new ones. When he came over to have dinner they went to look something up and his wife’s obituary popped up. She acted surprised and claimed to him, and later my sister and mom, that she had no idea how that could have happened and went to far as to suggest (at least with my mom and sister) that her spirit must have made that page pop up.

My mom also says she seems to record porn on her dvr pretty regularly by mistake.

I’m not really mad at her for any of this.

“By mistake” *** Official July Big Ol' Titlles & Main Event SWEAT LC Thread ***

I’m pretty impressed by your 93 y/o nana looking for companionship and enjoying watching young actors bang each other’s brains out.

I like to think that if my nana was still alive (she would be 85 this August) that now 20 years after her husband passed that she would have found someone to enjoy spending time with and was enjoying her life (my nana also had a secret side despite being a hyper religious woman)

Line check:

It's 1:50 am. I roll up to my local chevron convenience store - which I am a very, very well known reg at. Most of the employees there have worked there for 5+ years and they all know me very well. I have a good relationship with the place, which I feel is important context here.

So I roll up around 1:50, I want a beer. The guy working tonight is an older, indian gentleman, kind of neurotic and very by the book. He never fails to card me even though I've bought beer there from him probably a thousand times.

He has a really annoying habit late at night of locking the door and not responding to the bell. Well, this time he's at the counter, and looks right at me - I know he knows i'm there.

He disappears and looks like he's making coffee for about 5-7 minutes. I look at my phone and it's 1:57. If he doesn't let me in in the next minute I won't be able to buy my beer.

What do you do here? Knock aggressively? Ring the bell?

He finally came over around 1:58 and asked me what I wanted, when I said beer he tried to say it was too late, I pointed at my watch and said "we better hurry then." He sold me it at 1:59 am.

It wasn't too late before I walked up dude. And he knew exactly what I wanted at 1:50 in the morning on a Friday. I wasn't snippy or anything but I felt like saying something - he definitely took an annoyed attitude with me though. I know gas station attendant is probably in the top 10 of worst jobs ever so I make it a point to not get angry at people in these types of jobs but man, that was annoying.

I know there's probably some type of manual or something that lays out the exact steps of what he's supposed to do during his shift, eg "At 1:50am lock the door, prepare new coffee for the next day" etc. and he can't deviate from stuff like that. He looked super stressed out.

Sometimes I am easily riled-up.

But I am learning. My default would be either immediate double-up, or put it in such "pissed-off" piggy bank and give it to greg somewhen later.

Englich things that I learned from the incident:
"you are a treasure" is/can also be condescending. I don't think that pokeraz used it like that, but I will be more careful myself with this expression in the future. It is one that I use pretty often to express my gratitude/admiration. Good to know that it can have very different meaning.

J,

You’re right to be annoyed but you also kept your cool and played it right. It’s a tough line because you’re in the right but also getting too upset or too aggressive about it just makes you look like a raging drunk *******.

By the timing of it he may just be strong on his trolling game *** Official July Big Ol' Titlles & Main Event SWEAT LC Thread ***

I have been trolled in this spot before by Philmon - who is my chevron arch-nemesis. I've been in this exact spot a few times before with him, on very cold nights, and he'll leave me outside until exactly 2:00 am and tell me I'm **** out of luck. Before I sound like an alcoholic, I used to get off work around 1:30 and it was always a race to the clock to get there before the stupid 2am liquor law took effect.

I know with this guy, there's no ill intent. My soul read is that he was trying as hard as he could to accommodate me but was struggling with that desire and the desire to follow his work manual to a T.

I’m drunkenly loving the idea of Jmakin having a Chevron arch-nemesis who has a Villain-ish name and he gets joy over wielding power over your ability to enjoy a late night buzz. It’s like right out of a Kevin Smith movie

Buying beers at 2am after work make you sound like an alcoholic no matter how you put it, lol.
07-14-2018 , 07:21 AM
No way is gas attendant top 10 worst jobs, and if it is that's no excuse. Pretty big bs on his part.

If you get out of work at 1:30 then maybe buy beer before going to work. Also beer does not go bad the instant it is removed from the gas station fridge, you could try buying a few day's worth.
07-14-2018 , 07:32 AM
Of course I usually bought beer before work if I was gonna drink, but on the days I forgot/knew i didn't have any in the fridge, it was a situation that popped up a few times.
07-14-2018 , 07:50 AM
J, maybe they have a policy of closing the door 10 minutes before 2 to avoid arguments with customers who've taken too long to select their booze and got to the till after 2am?

How's that any different than getting off of work at 5 pm and buying beer by 5:30 pm, if your work shift doesn't happen to be a 9 to 5?
07-14-2018 , 08:32 AM
Sak, I guess the difference to me is when you start drinking at 5pm you have plenty of social options. When you start drinking home at 2am virtually the only option is to stay at home drinking alone, giving a small alcoholic vibe.

I'm going to assume that most people buying beer at 5pm after work are planning to drink it at home. Whether they are alone or not when they drink probably relates to whether they live alone or not.

I've never bought a beer at a convenience store. Six-pack/twelve-pack, sure. But never one beer. Seems odd to me.

I will occasionally buy a beer at a convenience store if it is near my hotel, I've had a long day, and would like a beer before bed. It's pretty rare that there are any good beers among those available as a single at a convenience store, though.

Speaking of sounding alchy, when I'm home I drink my beer on tap from a kegerator. Most beers taste better on tap, plus it's much cheaper that way.

I have definitely bought single beers at a convenience store.
