I sleep past noon every day.

Not everyone works the same shift. Was glad to completely crash out on my one day off.

It would be nice if just once iTunes could do an iOS update on the phone without throwing up confusing, contradictory and scary messages.

During software update:
"You have just changed some settings on your phone, would you like to apply these changes?"

Um, ok?

Immediately after clicking OK:

"You are in the process of syncing your phone, are you sure you want to stop and update your software now?"

Every. ****ing. Time. Yes, no, I don't know. Just ****ing do your job you POS software. Most user-friendly company my ass.

I didn't get any of those messages when I updated.

Are you sure you wanted to make those changes ;)

I also wonder if Apple is ever going to make any improvements to their phone functions? I see they improved app updating - in that it no longer jumps you out of the app store just so you can see that your app is actually updating on the desktop. That was really annoying when you were trying to update 10 apps at once.

But here's the annoyances I have with the phone features, which I have had since my 3G:
  1. When I click Send Message from someone's Contact Info - why does it ask me if I want to send the message to their mobile or home #? You can't send a text message to a home # ffs. When I only have one mobile # listed, couldn't it just default to that (but maybe give me some way to override)?

  2. Same with email. How often do I want to send a message to someone's email when I have their mobile #? Maybe .0001% of the time? Why add an entire extra click/decision just for that? How many extra people have died from distracted drivers making that click? Blood is on your hands Apple. I purposely don't store people's email because of this.

  3. I am looking at someone's Contact Info, and click Send Message. I either send the message or I change my mind. Now how do I get back to the contact info? I can't. The "back" button just takes me back to my text messages screen. This is a fundamental UI no-no. Don't send people down 1-way streets they can't get back from. Very lame.

  4. I am looking at text messages from someone and I decide I want to call them. The only way to do this is scroll all the way to the top of what could be a very long list, click the contact button, then click their phone #. Why not just have a call button easily available? Why do I have to do a ton of scrolling, and then make 2 more clicks? Interestingly, I can get back to my text messages from here. Just not back to my contacts once I click Send Message. Very inconsistent.

  5. I like to go straight to my contacts instead of clicking Phone first (I have Contacts docked). But once I'm in there, why can't I have the usual phone functions (Favorites, Recents, etc.) at the bottom, like I do when I click Phone first, then contacts? Is that 1/4" extra list really that valuable?

  6. Why can't I have the phone buttons at the bottom of my text message list? How nice would it be to be able to jump from text message list to contacts w/o having to close out of one and open the other?

Seriously though. Nothing's changed in 6 years. Is it still going to be like exactly this in 2020? If Apple doesn't step up their game I'm definitely going to get an Android when my contract is up. I want a wider phone and much better usability of the actual phone features.

No scrolling necessary, just tap the status bar at the top of the screen and it will auto take you to the top.

Nice

How to get back to the bottom tho?

Call / FaceTime /contact should just be constant

3 is annoying, but apple fanbois say it's so that you'll keep your texts tidy. I don't buy it.

You can send text messages to landline phones, though.

I'm pretty sure it takes you back to the bottom when you end the call.

I was gonna call but I forgot what they were texting about and then I lost interest by the time it took to scroll all the way back down

Yeah except it usually takes me two or three taps to hit the spot just right. And half the time I pull down that stupid drawer. So either way it still takes a bunch of scrolls are a bunch of clicks. I usually just scroll because I never know how long the list is, and I know I can usually get to the top in three or four flicks.

So have a default behavior that just works. But give me a way when I get to to the text message screen to pick the .001% case. Say a little button at the top that will bring up any other options - like home phone number, work phone number, email, etc.

It's the same concept with their spelling AutoCorrect. It just works, unless you don't want to use it, and then you can click the little X. They put so much thought into that, and more or less got it right imo. I don't understand why they seem to have put such little thought into the phone part of the iPhone.

Based on your previous posts about texting, I'm guessing it takes you two or three taps to do everything on the iPhone except for hitting an app, so what's the prob?

I have big fingers and suck at texting, but I realize that when I cover 3 letters that the keyboard will take whichever key my finger comes into contact with first, so I could practice and get better, but it's not that important to me. Outside of 'ok' or whatever, I'll just phone someone.
