I am on Sprint and need a new phone. I am getting one of these. I am wondering if I should take this chance to switch carriers. I like Sprint, but am under the impression that their network doesn't really take advantage of the LTE thing. Is that true? Many thanks in advance.

Sick....Just plain sick....I want one so bad. Have to wait til next year though. The only thing I would upgrade is to a 1080p forward facing camera instead of the 720p camera.

If people are underwhelmed it's only because they were expecting Apple to reinvent the wheel. This is a solid upgrade and it's still the best hardware/software you can buy.

You may be the only person on the planet who thinks this. Change in form factor + LTE compatible is indisputably a greater step up than Siri (the camera improved in both iterations, so that is a wash).

kerowo - would you mind providing us with a quick overview of where NFC is? Seems like an awesome technology but would have limited use for a good number of years because vendors are not using it?

Maybe Apple needed to reinvent the wheel (again!) - Nokia and Samsung are developing awesome smartphones.

You are probably right, and it's most likely why Apple isn't adding it yet. I don't think they like being beholden to 3rd parties so until it's more established they won't push it. Android tends to add cool stuff and let the users figure out what to use it for. I'm waiting for some NFC stickers so I can set up different configurations on my S3 for different locations; car, work, home.

No doubt about it. The gap between Apple and everyone else is much smaller these days when it comes to both hardware and software. But I think Apple still clearly does it better on both fronts.

Hello Modz - could you please merge this thread with the officially sanctioned mega iPhone thread? Switching between the 2 is getting annoying!

Thanks in advance.

It's a good joke. But it makes perfect sense that the item you have with you pretty much every moment of the day is way more tangible and important to most people than space travel.

Currently got a 4 so def going to upgrade. Might not be a big difference between 4S&5 but there sure is between the 4&5.

I don't want too overdramatic about it but the technology that goes into making an iPhone or other smartphone is 10x more impressive than putting a man on the moon. And Apple's benefit to mankind is 100x more impressive than NASA's.

Seems sort of challenging, from a technology POV, to put a man on the moon, imo

Dude, I really like Apple's products, but that line is just hilarious. I hope it is a level.

Got a 4 and will upgrade to the 5 but 4g isn't up and running properly in the UK yet. The providers are still arguing over bandwidth allocation so until that is sorted out there doesn't seem much point as the biggest reason to upgrade to the 5 is the faster internet.

Well, the bigger screen and faster processor seem pretty big too.

Of course it is. When we put people on the moon back in the 60s it was a technological marvel. Back then we were willing to spend lots of money but we had to stretch the technology to it's limits. Today it's the opposite. The technology and the know how is readily available. That iPhone in your pocket has about 1000x the computing power of an Apollo rocket. The only thing keeping us from moon vacations is the ridiculous cost involved.

No, not a level. NASA's missions haven't done much besides stick it to the Russians. However some of the technology that was developed for missions have definitely helped but it's not as big of a deal as NASA would like you to believe.

On a daily basis way more people benefit from Apple than NASA when it comes to technological achievements. Apple started the personal computing revolution as well as the smartphone/tablet revolution which fundamentally changed the way our world works today and changed how we live our lives. Not to mention the enormous global economic impact Apple has by being the world's largest company.

I hear ya but I think having the screen size and processor speed without the 4g speed wont live up to expectation, I would rather wait another 6 months and get it when its up and running and any creases have been ironed out. They are rolling out 4g in 12 major cities next month in the UK but I don't live in one of them so another few months with the iphone4 is my favored option.

for those who can't tell the diff between 4s and 5, this is definitely for you..

Do you all think I'll need to preorder at 3AM or should waking up at 7AM be ok?

7am worked fine for the 4 when I did it 2 years ago, but I heard the 4S was a mess.

It's interesting. I had the iPhone 4 and actually received as a gift the galaxy s3. It was hard switching from the familiar look and feel but within about 2 weeks I really came around to the galaxy. I thought when the new iPhone comes out I will definately buy it but I see no need to. I don't see a single thing the iPhone has that the SG3 does not. Am I missing something?

Nope... iPhone5 and SG3 are very similar
