that notch does seem quite bad. Can't believe they made it that way.

It's fine. All the media that needs a straight edge screen just becomes inset. It's literally two tiny menu bars. I'm probably going to miss the fingerprint scanner more.

I've always been like half a cycle behind but I actually ordered the 8 plus for today - ready for my larger screen and camera. Of course I'll already be behind again when the X comes out but I don't care enough about the screen upgrade and am not excited for the facial recognition so I'll be sticking to the "basic" model for now.

I cracked the screen on my iPhone 7 a couple weeks ago. I ended up taking it to one of those discount unsanctioned repair places because they would do it super quick and I basically need to have my phone 24/7 for work. The screen they put on is heavily polarized, as in, it turns completely dark when I'm holding the phone normally and wearing sunglasses, while being fine holding it sideways. The shop says they'll put on a new screen free of charge if I take it back in. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff and any advice on what I should do next? I'm not completely opposed to bringing it to an apple store and seeing if they'll put on a new screen, but I won't be able to do it for like a month.

...why not just let them put the new screen on free of charge?

Currently on a 6S. The screen broke and I was waiting until the release date to see which one I should get.

The iPhone compare page: https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/ makes all of the new phones seem really disappointing.

Yeah, they are faster. But I'm not really a power user, so that's not a big deal for me. Wireless charging is cool, but not a must have. The main difference seems to be the camera. But the difference doesn't seem big enough.

The 8 and X have 4k 60p (don't really care) and portrait lighting, which seems like a huge gimmick. They also add 1080p at 240 fps (the 7 only goes to 120 fps, you need to go down to 720p to get to 240 fps).

X adds a better front camera than both the X and 8 (which appear to have the same camera.

I do like the better camera and am probably going to get a new phone instead of replacing the screen (the volume buttons are also broken). But right now, I'm leaning towards the 7 Plus as opposed to the 8 Plus or waiting for X.

The portrait mode is crazy good but probably not worth the upgraded price on its own.

This.

Although as it’s a 7 I would have just bitten the bullet and taken it to Apple.

Does anyone have an iPhone 8 (or plus) with the 29w charger?

If so how much of an improvement does that have over the 5w charger that comes with it. Is it worth spending that colour of money on a charger and cable?

I have one coming today, will let you know how it goes. My understanding is that it is supposed to be twice as fast as a normal charger.

I was really happy with Apple last time I cracked my screen. I thought it was going to be a nightmare too but it was done in about 40 minutes.

Probably not as fast as you got it done, but short enough that I don't think wait is a huge deal.

Based on "early testing," I think it is much faster than using the little 5w charger that comes with the iPhone but not much different than charging your iPhone with an iPad charger using a normal cable, which I had been doing prior.

I think an interesting thread would be, “What do you have on your home screen”, meaning what apps make it to your first page

The latter is what i've been doing as well.

I have an ipad pro and it's meant to decrease the time significantly but I couldn't justify paying that for a charger for the ipad.

Phone is different though as i can give it a quick blast before heading out if it's drained - which regularly happens i'm heading out the door and phones only got to around 50%.

I tried carrying one of those little battery packs but its just a hassle.

I have yet to download IOS 11 yet but I've been hearing friends say it's hurting their battery life. Has anyone experienced this yet?

Im on an iPhone 6 and its seriously affected my battery life. Also made the whole phone much slower and not pleasant to use.

It’s fine on 8 Plus but like most upgrades it seems mostly cosmetic and does not really enhance the user experience. I kept 10 on my old phone so it wouldn’t kill all my old apps.

Haven't noticed any on my 7Plus, the changes are fairly minor, biggest I've noticed is that they auto-dim the brightness in the mornings too much and have made it easier to add crap to messages.

iOS 11 hasn't affected the speed of my iPhone 6S. But my iPad Mini 2 is noticeably slower.

I enjoy geeking out about the size of apps when I view the available updates in the App store.

I updated my iPad Air 2 to iOS 11 and this information seems to have disappeared from the updates list. You can still go to each app's individual store page and it will give you that info, but it's no longer there in the short detail summary. I miss that a lot. I'm guessing that it's not the most important information outside of deciding whether or not you can download something on 4G/LTE or if you'll need Wi-Fi instead.

I think that I will move my phone to iOS 11 at some point once people seem pretty comfortable that the growing pains are over, but as of right now that little feature is holding me back as much as anything. I want to know that I'm flexing my fiber connection when I see a 1.2 GB app to download!

Haven't noticed any difference what so ever in performance since I upgraded.

The screen record is great.

All the major updates seem to be with the ipad rather than the iphone, Although files is on both it's more suited to the ipad, tapping on the lock screen with the pencil opens up notes as well which is pretty handy.

I finally cracked an iPhone screen for first time ever (my 6s+)...it was $29 for Apple to fix it since I have Apple Care...they said if had any issues after the fix then they'd replace it fully for that cost

Maybe it's using a cracked screen for a few days, but the new one seems much sharper and better, even tho I know it's not

Anyone notice a huge different in vibration since upgrading to the 8? I’ve missed calls with my phone in my pocket which never happened before.
