Hehe.

My point is, if Samsung can **** up their flagship that bad you can probably assume these things are INCREDIBLY difficult to engineer. Apple probably needed to remove headphone jack to make it IP67 waterproof. Yes, Samsung and others manage to do IP68 w/o removing it, but who knows what trade-offs they do for that.

I also think my 6S is eligible for a battery replacement. Will I need to remove jailbreak before bringing it in?

Don't they have to remove the screen to get to the battery? They may not be able to put a broken screen back...

Lol. Give me the phone, and a battery from iFixit, and I'll be able to do it with no issue.

Anyone know if there will be iphone deals this weekend? I haven't upgraded my phone for awhile (still have a 4S) and I have no idea what this new world of "buy your phone on an installment plan and pay the exact same amount, but over 24 months with no interest!" crap is. Hoping to save on a 6 or 6S.

Google led me to a description of some stores that mostly involve getting gift cards with your purchase which is meh.

Only if I can charge about $500 per battery replacement. I think Apple would do it for a fraction of that, including a new screen, so I guess I'm sol.

Shattered my phone today. Exactly 2 years after I got it. Anything out there other than the 24 month payment plan there?

What's the difference between the 2 yr payment plan and the 2 yr contract with money up front?

Yes, you will have to remove the jail break as you are not covered by any warranty, hence voiding your new battery.

The payment plan is a better deal. If you have poor credit though they don't give it to you and you have to pay upfront. A bit counter intuitive, but that's really all you need to know.

If people haven't noticed the sim free version of the 7 has been available at least since Black Friday. Sold my 6s+ for $500 and upgraded to the 7 plus not expecting much because of the similarity of hardware but after a few weeks of use there is something I cant place my finger on but the entire experience is much better. Ymmv

An oem battery 6s part cost is under $20, if you know how to get one. I can't speak to the quality of all the third party options out there so read reviews if you get one. If you are doing this repair yourself be very careful not to bend, puncture or overheat the old battery as it is glued down with excessive adhesive and can create a dangerous fire quickly.

I'm sure this has been covered before but there are three options if you purchase your phone directly from apple

1) purchase the phone outright, I always recommend the sim free model (basically a Verizon phone without a contract). This phone is the same price as the others but allows you to switch carriers any time you want or put an international sim in during travel if that helps you. It also increases the resale value as well as allowing you to cast the widest net because you can sell it to anyone.

2) finance through barclaycard, if you are getting just the phone you'll get 12 months no interest or 18 months for larger purchases. Use apple's money free

3) lease program, trade your phone in every time there's a new model and always be under AppleCare which is typically superior to any carrier insurance

My brother and his wife are moving from the US to Canada next week. I'm hoping the smart people here can answer a few questions,

1) will US iPhones work the same in Canada? LTE bands the same?

2) I assume the phones would need to be unlocked? Is unlocked the same as jail broken? Would they need both?

3) if they do need jail breaking or unlocking is this easy?

1) Generally yes. Not sure if there are specific variations by carrier. Lots of people I know have phones that work in one place or another.

2) Unlocked is different than jail broken. Whether their phone needs to be unlocked depends on who their carrier is and how they bought the phone.

3) If it needs to be unlocked, I think it depends on the carrier. I've heard stories of people just asking their carrier to unlock their phone because they're moving/traveling/whatever and the carrier doing it.

And, of course, prepare them for a really ****ty cell phone experience. Canadian plans suck.

3) Verizon phones have both the cdma and gsm antenaes so they can be moved to any carrier. Att and Tmobile do not have cdma so even if the carrier unlocks them you cannot use it on a cdma network. If you've paid off your phone you can typically unlock your phone on your carrier's website

Conventional headphones don't have a DAC circuit, so the phone has to provide it for every type headphone out there. It's additional electronics that is targeting an ever changing speaker hardware via a dying interface standard. It's horrible. It's the engineering equivalent of an appendix. If you want the phone to be great with two types of headphones, some models end up having two DACs that you can turn on and off from software. And the worst part about it is that the reason to keep the jack is entirely economic for the user.

The new lightning headphone provide their own DAC, so it's optimized for that model and there is more space in the phone internals. If you don't want to pay for the Apple licensing, that's fine. You are denying yourself access to a pretty good user base. Maybe if your product is that good, some nameless factory will make a million adapters and sell them on eBay. Way to stick it to the ghost of Steve jobs. Technology chanfes faster than consumer tastes, and those change at least every year. I doubt the guy who wrote that article will actually miss his jack, but if I'm wrong, I'll get him a beer.

Has to be stupidest debate in history. Apple is a business. If consumers don't like thier choices they will lose market share. People need to stop acting like it's some deep philosophical debate.

I seem to have lost the drop down window (below the URL bar) that would populate with my most used sites in safari on my iPad. Now a single line drop down appears but doesn't populate with most used sites. It's always blank.

I've tried googling and can't figure what setting, if any, I've inadvertently changed.

An ideas?

My iPhone 6 (almost 2 years old) won't charge any more. The last few weeks before it died I would always have to move the charger around to get it to stay, not it won't work at all.

What are my options? Can this be repaired or do I need a new phone?

Does the charger not fit the port anymore? If so, this happened to me about a month ago. Take a mini-screwdriver or something small and check the port for lint. Take out as much as you can. That completely fixed the issue, and the charger fit back into the port perfectly again.
