In my experience, it is pretty reliable.

Yes, people are actually driving along the highway and pressing the button when they see a cop. It only takes a second, and everyone hates getting speeding tickets so a lot of people do it.

It isn't based on experience, it is based on actual visual sightings of police officers as reported by other users of Waze. If you pass by one and the Cop isn't there anymore, you can press a button and tell it that, and it will stop sending the alert out to other people.

In some ways it is even better than a radar detector. You get the information a mile ahead of time, so there is no slamming on the breaks.

That's what I meant by experience. Experienced seeing a cop or getting a false positive.

In some ways it is definitely better than a radar detector, especially on highways where laser is more common, and afaik the closest a radar detector can do with laser is tell you when you've already got got. Could be wrong on that front, been a while since I looked in to them.

In short, it's a good service.

I would disagree, I think that the 4S -> 5 is a bigger upgrade. I think the biggest things are a bigger screen and LTE.

The 4 -> 4S was great because it added support for Sprint (me), the camera was a big step forward, and iOS5 changed quite a bit.

I'm not sure what the new camera has in store, but as far as I know it's still an upgrade from the 4S's. Battery life reviews should start to be more defined once people are able to use the phone for a couple of weeks.

Both the 4 -> 4S and 4S -> 5 had upgrades, but hardware wise I don't see any reason to say that the 4S -> is a smaller upgrade than the 4 -> 4S.

Agreed, they seem almost equivalent (upgrades) imo

I'm not going to give too much sway to battery life reports on the 5 yet. The thing hasn't even been released to the general public.

idk what to do.

right now i have two friends on the plan with me and i have 20% discount
I pay roughly $135 a mo for three phones
I have my line with the 2gig a month plan
I have another iphone with 2gig a month data
I have another line with no data
all have unlimited text.
I charge one $35 and $60/mo for the two lines.

all of my phones are due for upgrade or almost due for upgrade so I am reaching a window where I can leave at&t without penalty and am considering a cheaper better option(t-moblile or some prepay). idk if my friends are down for another year either.

at&t has also recently given me flack for tethering without paying for it so I am also going to have to pay slightly more which would probably worth it with lte...

any advice would be appreciated

you won't get LTE on t-mobile. their 4G is good, but it's not as good as Verizon LTE (unsure how good ATT/Sprint LTE is right now, they are definitely not as built out as verizon's).

I really think all the websites attacking the new maps app should think about what apple have achieved... an entirely new mapping application with a few issues which will no doubt be sorted out very quickly.

Also, the 3D mapping software rocks.

is google maps completely gone? can you download it from the app store?

There are rumours that google have submitted their own map app. Now it's up to Apple wether they approve it or not.

Used the iOS 6 maps to commute home and its pretty much garbage compared to Waze (which is FAR superior for driving GPS in pretty much every way)

iOS 6 maps wouldn't even show you going the right direction most of the time, whereas Waze always has you going the right direction as you are lined up with whatever road you are driving on (and not driving down a freeway while the compass is facing 45 degrees to the right)

Waze also has more accurate up to date traffic and road conditions (user generated). If you're driving on a major freeway, you will know of any cars on the shoulder, police, or objects in the road well before you get there (even if you don't have a set destination and are just driving with the app open)

Waze has better alternative routing, with easier to read road signage

Waze will automatically zoom in/ out of the map depending on your driving speed (and has the option to show your speed)

Waze has automatic day/night display options

I guess iOS 6 maps will be fine for looking up stuff and general location info, but I don't really see myself using the turn-by-turn navigation at all. Would also definitely download a 3rd party google maps app should that become available

Edit: fwiw I do like the new 2 finger tap to zoom out on iOS 6 maps

It's nice but nothing special. Not worth losing google street view
