if you decide to use waze be aware that it runs in the background and gps being the massive battery-hog that it is it'll kill your phone pretty quickly unless you turn it off.

True, you have to manually switch off Waze after using

I haven't used the updated apple maps while driving much yet because I like how waze gives you traffic updates and notices for stopped cars and police

For those in the U.S., how often do you think you'll be using Passbook? (hasn't been able to link up to the app store in Japan aorn).

Everything else with iOS6 has been running pretty smoothly so far. It will take more experimenting to get a better idea of how the new Maps app compares with Google's database, but I'm enjoying the little things like pulling to refresh e-mail, offline reading lists and not being automatically returned to the home screen when downloading/updating apps.

Wtf, is this turn-by-turn anything better than Google Navigation? Android has had this for years and I just assumed it was standard on all smartphones. Apple really just now added this?

Yup, pretty weak. I doubt it's better than google nav, google maps is the best

Double true

You could get turn-by-turn apps before, but there was no turn-by-turn native to iOS.

When the iPhone first came out Apple and Google were friends so they were able to leverage google maps...

ok, after seeing map reviews and reactions on here and on reddit, I'm not upgrading to iOS6. I use maps a lot and if it's essentially broken in the new OS then that's a dealbreaker for me. I can't imagine any feature being good enough to offset losing Google Maps.

the native gmaps app was never that good, it didn't have a cycle option, it regularly gave me ******ed directions, couldn't find places and got confused. haven't road-tested apples' maps yet but it seems fine to me. so far i'm happy i updated my ios.

the new apple maps are probably just fine in large US cities. Everything else, especially in Europe, its a ****ing disaster.

Wow, are you in the US? Having my iPhone has always been integral because Google Maps on my iPhone has given me directions when my GPS never could. Time and time again my iPhone has helped me out with directions -- finding the real address I want mostly, whereas my Garmin or Magellan was being the piece of crap it is.

That said, the Bowling Green image is pretty huge and I'm rolling back as we speak. As a 4 owner the bad vastly outweighs the good.

So been using ios6 for a couple of days now.

First thoughts are, it's exactly the same apart from a few slight changes in the colour here and their.

Do not disturb is quite handy can see myself using that alot.

Safari is quicker and smother but for some unknown reason every now and again it always flags up no internet when there clearly is internet available.

This new podcast system is awful, go back to having it in the ipod.

Panorama works flawlessly, really good.

The new maps thing is god awful, probably the worst thing to every happen to the iphone.

I love Waze. The speed trap warnings make it a must have.

Don't all navigation programs have 'safety camera' alerts?

I've had the tomtom app since it was release and had a tomtom before hand but thought that would be a bog standard thing.

What did they change with Podcasts? I use those all the time and generally like that it keep track of which ones I've listened to and which ones I haven't. Syncing keeps the 10 most recent unlistened to Podcasts available in my Music app.

They've been moved from the 'iPod' app and there is now a new app altogether.

I'm not talking about cameras.

Waze uses crowd sourced data to tell you if there is a cop car along your route.

Sprint just emailed me; phone has shipped and will get here tomorrow PM. Sweet.

I've never used anything but Google Maps but the one on my Android/Nexus was always slow and freezing up. I can't imagine (me being in Los Angeles) that iOS6's Maps app will be any worse. I AM worried about the podcast thing because I listen to those in my car exclusively and use iTunes to sync.

Fair enough.

How reliable is it though, I mean are people actually driving along the M6 and updating it so you know where they are?

It will just tell you where cops typically like to hang out based on experience, it's not a replacement for a radar detector, or something even better like not speeding, but it works okay.

For example, an out-of-towner might not know that there are frequently four police officers on the Thames river bridge(two on each side, facing both sides of traffic) with an incredibly long sight to traffic. With speed trap warnings, you would be alerted to that.
