I upgraded to iOS6 on iPhone 4 and it's as quick as before, no lagging.

Yeah I took the plunge too. Passbook didn't work properly, apparently you have to change the date at least a month in advance in settings to get it to work, not that there's more than one app that works with it at the moment.

Who gets verbal turn by turn in maps? My 4 doesn't have it, is it 4s and 5 or just 5?

Are all those companies like bose, iHome, etc. going to make a dock specifically for the iPhone 5?
Are you kidding? Third party companies will be making stuff for the new connector left and right. The iPhone 5 sold 2 million units in the first day, which more than doubled the record for first-day sales which was held by...the iPhone 4S. The connector is supposedly going to be around for a while, so I expect compatible accessories to be ubiquitous shortly.

You're definitely right about people being pissed about not being able to use existing accessories without an adapter. Not pissed enough to prevent tons of them from buying it though.

Sweet got confirmation I should have it by 1030AM Friday.

On the downside updating my 4 to iOS6 has taken hours due to it glitching and needing to restore to factory and then restore to back up. ugh. I should have just waited until we switched the 4 over to the wife when I'm wiping it anyway clean for her. But no, I just had to have iOS6 for 1 day.

That of course is not wholly true seeing as how an iOS6-equipped iPhone 4 does not have verbal turn-by-turn like I already said.

I didn't see where you specified you were running the new OS on the 4. Unless they changed the iOS6 before the official release, turn by turn is available on the 4s and it looked great. I'm updating the OS right now, so I'll check it out on my 4s.

That said, you can't go wrong with the $50 Garmin app - just like a Streetpilot except on your phone.

I have a 4s and turn by turn directions work great! Being able to ask Siri for directions to anywhere and have directions in about 5 seconds is pretty awesome I have to say.

I have ordered an iPhone 5 but does this mean I will have to change the iPod dock in my car or are there adapters etc to get over that issue?

Another question in Bluetooth in the car. Do you know how to play telephone calls through the head unit if it's a standard unit? Is there a Bluetooth device that you can get to do this?

Thanks

You need a bluetooth deck in your car and a microphone (if the deck doesn't have a built-in mic in the deck). I replaced my deck with one from Crutchfield (only place to go if you want to self-install) - major pita, but it's awesome to field calls in your car and play songs from your phone without taking it out of your pocket.

Turn by Turn is only available on the 4S and not the 4. Just another way for Apple to convince owners of the 4 to upgrade to the 5.

Would people upgrade if Apple announced they were just changing the name to "iPhone Blueberry" or something?

That is is a very interesting hypothetical.

How are people liking the crappy Maps downgrade? It's unusable where I live (London) because of the lack of transit directions (and just overall piss poor map data), so I've been regulated to using the google maps web app for now ...

edit: this review seems to sum up my feelings re: maps well:

Wow, you think the major cities would be spot on.

Took balls to drop google maps, the public are probably being subjected to 6 months of maps in a beta. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years iOS maps are better than google maps

I use Waze on the Galaxy for turn by turn navigation, it's a free app on the iPhone.
