Jailbreakers,

Springtomize 3 is the best $3 you'll ever spend.

Helpfully,

The latest update to iTunes fubar'd my computer recently. I tried to use the automatic updater when it recommended I update to the newest version and partway through the update everything went to hell. I got missing .dll errors, iTunes kept crashing, and I would get authorization errors during the install process.

I went through a system restore, which didn't work. I reinstalled iTunes from a freshly downloaded .exe and was still having problems. Just as a warning to anyone else who runs in to this, what it took was completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. Uninstalling was more complicated than I had thought it would be.

If anyone else runs in to this issue, follow the instructions here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925

Uninstall the apps in the order that they recommend and then start with a fresh .exe from the iTunes website. After doing all that I seem to be in the clear. Fortunately all my settings, play counts, apps, etc. seem to have been preserved in the process and my iPhone still syncs ok. It was a major hassle that took several hours to figure out. A coworker ran in to the same issue so I wonder if it's something with the most recent update.

I had something like this happen with this current version. I went to the Apple install folder and manually ran the itune install. Everything then worked fine.

So I went into the tmobile store to look into purchasing a 5s. They give no discounts on the price of the phone, the only advantage is that you get to pay the phone off in monthly increments instead of paying up front. Given that, wouldn't I be better off buying a 5s off Craigslist for cheaper? They can be found used for as low as 400

I got a 5s and have loved the switch. Yes there are a ton of features from Android that aren't on iOS7 but I don't miss them really. The smoothness of the iPhone makes it worth it alone.

That said, my particular iPhone has hardware problems and has been in an infinite boot loop with the Microsoft blue screen of death mixed in. Waiting on a new one. Hope that this is the last of the bad experiences with iPhone.

Not sure if this is a software or hardware issue. I got very lucky and got a free swap when I asked for a paid applecare replacement for my 5 recently. Well the last few days when I press my home button I sometimes get the last used menu as if I double clicked the home button.

I can't force it to do it on command. No matter how I press the home button, hard light, side of it, top or bottom of it. I do notice it happens mostly when exiting safari and sometimes imessage.

Anyone ever get that? Iphone 5 on iOS 7. I really don't know what terms to search for online to find other reports about it. Every combination I try only brings up hints on using the "last used" feature.

Yes, that's cheaper.

But you also run a non-insignificant chance of fraud.

IE, scammer buys phone on payments. Sells it to you. Scammer stops making payments. T-Mobile bricks your phone.

You can use it as a paper weight. You can use it to hold the door open. You could, I suppose, use it on WIFI only. You could track down the scumbag who ripped you off.

It's just blacklisted from attaching to the cellular network.

Couldn't you unlock and attach to another network?

You may. Though carriers will be (are?) sharing that blacklist.

reason i asked was cos i know someone very well, and they have a 5s brand new and lets just say he got 2 instead of one ....it is blocked on whatever network he was using

im in a diff country and e said it should be able to work in ireland as he is in england.

even if they shared the blacklist maybe they wouldnt share with overseas networks???

if i got how would i go about unlocking it ?i really have no idea and if its worth a few $ i would get it off him,if its a 'paperweight; i wouldnt

altough wouldnt parts be worth something?

FYI, if you use a simcard in a blacklisted phone on the AT&T network. AT&T kills the simcard...

I found out the hard way.

If you're confident that you can unlock an iphone 5S, Virgin Mobile (Sprint Prepaid) sells it for $440 new, no contract.

It use to be trivial. You gave some guy on ebay 99 cents and he would unlock your iphone. AT&T slammed that door shut about 6 months ago.

There also use to be ways to do it playing with the baseband code on the phone. I also don't think that works anymore.

www.howardforums.com is the place to find out all about cellphones.

Google is also good.

My guess is that the days of easy iphone unlocking is done.

The good news is that the carriers seem to be much more amenable to unlocking phones that are on completed contracts.
