When my mom got home, she immediately disabled the fingerprint reader, even when I told her that was like one of the only 2 reasons why she should choose the 5s over the 5c.

As a hardened android user, there's nothing that I could discern at the store that would lead me to pick the 5s over the 5c. I certainly would not get the 4s though. My sister erroneously upgraded to IOS 7 on her 4s and she complained to me about what a disaster of a decision that was. Her phone couldnt handle the upgrade until she searched on the internet on how to optimize it so that it wasnt so slow.
5s is also much more powerful and has a better camera.

But your paragraph about the 4s on ios7 is also why someone should get the 5s over the 5. Sure, there's not a huge difference now, but that same thing is going to happen to the 5 a year earlier than it happens to the 5s. It's $100 now to have a phone that is both better now and will last longer, which is insignificant to the thousands spent on the phone contract over the 2 years.

I mean, so you don't know how the 5s has a better processor/internals/cameras?

So your point then is not that you couldn't tell the two apart but that your mother wouldn't use the extra features that you can discern.

I thought the 4s had gsm and CDMA radios?

got the blue 5c 32gb to replace my 4s as a christmas present to myself. obv don't give a crap about all the extra features/power that the 5s has as the 5c is beautiful, the most pleasing piece of technology i've ever owned, and i got it at a good price too (£468 free delivery new).

You know it has better internals and the fingerprint reader right?

And it's a lot smarter.

It's not even a worthwhile upgrade if the 5s is available.

Unfortunately it looks like Verizon won't activate a device originally sold with an AT&T plan (they have different IMEI prefixes) so it was all for naught. Still going to try...maybe I'll get a cool guy behind the counter who'll can do it anyway.

This is correct with the 4S. There is no way to use a 4S that was originally for AT&T on Verizon or Sprint. It can only be used on AT&T and T-Mobile, if it's unlocked.

AT&T and T-Mobile operate on the GSM network while Verizon and Sprint use CDMA. Starting with the iPhone 5 and LTE, the US government made Verizon unlock all their LTE phones and you can use them on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. You may not be able to get the fastest LTE speeds though. I'm not 100 percent sure about that.

It doesn't work the other way though. You can't use AT&T or T-Mobile iPhone 5's and beyond on Verizon's network. Just on GSM carriers if they are unlocked.

My experience has been good. Flip Control Center, BiteSMS, Swipe Selection and MyWi alone make it worth it.

What's the value add with biteSMS now that iMessages has time stamps

I got activator which is nice for me specifically since my lock button is unreliable. And I really like f.lux. But that's all I've been able to really do. I put in flipcontrolcenter but it's not THAT impressive.

Where's springtomize 3

seems like the kind of thing amazon reviews would be really good at.

The Amazon Basics lightning connector cords are well made. Only catch is that the end of the plastic hub at the end of the cable is a bit bigger than the Apple cables. They work with my iPad case just fine but I'd have to take my phone out of the case to use one.

Anyone else have a battery that just went to **** one day out of nowhere?

iPhone 5, latest version of iOS7. Running iOS7 since it came out.

Battery seemed fine. A typical work day I would check twitter/facebook/use Chrome anywhere from 5-10 times a day, usually for less than 30 minutes per use. I would get home at the end of the day and have anywhere from 35-50% battery life remaining. Mostly 3G use because can't always get LTE or wifi at work.

Everything was fine until this past weekend. Now a couple hours into the day, and my battery is down to 20% with normal use. Last night, I left my phone unplugged. Just sitting idle, with nothing running in the background and on wifi connection, battery went from 99% to 60% in 7 hours. If it's any apps that could possibly be causing it, the only thing I've downloaded in the last couple weeks were a few games from the iTunes 12 Days of Christmas which are now deleted.

Just a pain in the ass overall. Anyone else come across this?

Could possibly be location services on an app.

I have a year old iPhone 5 but the battery completely sucks. I just have a portable charger thing and constantly charge my phone. I know this is bad for it but it's not like not charging it helps.

Have you tried rebooting your phone? If yes, have you tried doing a hard reboot (hold down power and home until the apple logo pops up)? That used to be a common fix for a variety of issues back in the day (I had a 3g), not sure if it still applies.

Actually constantly doing short recharges is better for it than draining the battery all the way. Ideally you'd stay between 40 and 80% all the time with lots of quick recharges.

What you don't want to do is keep it at 100% all the time.

One other suggestion would be to change email settings from auto refresh (forget the term) to push to retrieve. Cuts down on data as well as battery IME. Obviously disabling apps that are fetching data would have the same effect.
