1) I'm 800km from MBK and with no plans to fly there, 2) they are usually around $300 more expensive and 3) the 1 year warranty will be for Hong Kong or Singapore most likely and if it breaks I won't be able to fix it in Thailand. Thanks the the clever remark though, but I think I'll wait

Canadians are getting hosed again

From Globe and mail
"
Apple Inc. is imposing new restrictions on at least some of its carrier partners ahead of the iPhone 5 launch next week, according to several sources.

People close to some of the Canadian carriers that are planning to sell the new device said Friday that Apple will not allow those firms to sell it in their stores without also activating the device."

I work customer service for vzw, all of you iphone addicts that want the 5 but don't want to lose unl data need to use a different upgrade on your account. You then activate the phone on the line with unl data. As long as you never use your upg on the line that has unl data, you never lose unl data.

Here's what i don't understand--why wouldn't cell carriers (or Apple or whoever decides these things) incentive everyone to get the newest model by offering it at the lower price without an 18-month restriction or whatever it is?

I have no need for a new iPhone (I had 4s and before that the 3G), and getting a new one every other year seems fine, but if they made the price point appealing, at least they'd have a chance of getting an impulse purchase outta me.

The carriers eat a big portion of the phone cost in order to get you to sign a contract. They recover this money in monthly service fees. If they gave you that discount for every phone, they would have to raise the monthly fees.

They make money in the service and not the phones anyway, so as long as you don't switch carriers to get the new phone then upgrading every-other-year is fine with them too.

Anyone that was in the market for a new smart phone anyway, ya it's a perfectly good phone to consider getting, like all the other iPhones.

For anyone that has a perfectly good smart phone that currently does everything they already want to do with their phone, blowing a few hundred bucks to get this one is just spew.

I mean I doubt anyone is spending their food money on this, it's nice to have disposable income and all, but surely there are more productive ways to blow a few hundred bucks if that's what ya wanna do. (this is for the people who have a great phone already and will needlessly be "upgrading")

Oh I think you would be surprised. I saw a woman at the grocery store the other day using food stamps but she had an iPhone.

Then it's not food money; it was booze money. Apple doing a service for the poor people - no Boone's Farm for 2 weeks.

I have never understood the yearly upgraders. I had the 3g, then the 4 and now have ordered the 5. Interim versions are never worth it.

I have to disagree with this. The interim versions are always the best choice if you are going to get just one every two years. It's much improved and gets rid of any bugs that the first version might have had.

I've bought every generation of the iPhone so far but I think this is the first one that I'm going to skip. To me, other than a slightly larger screen and LTE, this is only a minimal upgrade from the 4S. Now if I had the 4, I would definitely get it.

Well, it is cheap or free to upgrade to each phone if your carrier allows you to get the full subsidy every time, thanks to the secondary market for iPhones.

This is why I upgrade every 2 years. Got the 4 for $199 and sold my 3G for $225 on craigslist.

So I ordered last Friday from AT&T at 8:24AM ET (4 hours 24 mins after the sales started). The confirmation e-mail I got from AT&T said I would receive it "as early as September 21". I've seen conflicting news reports about when the inital pre-order volume sold out. However, since I got that confirming e-mail it makes me think I made the cut for the first shipment.

Anyone else order from AT&T on Friday the 14th and get similar language or something different? If so, what did your confirmation say and what time did you order?

Anyone else have experience with AT&T launches and did it arrive exactly on the release day?

Trying to figure out if I can definitely expect it to arrive Friday as I need to make sure I'm home that afternoon if so since I'm traveling next week.

You should get a tracking number at some point letting you know when it will arrive.

Look at this thread. It will help you find out your tracking info even if you don't have the tracking number yet.

iPhone still not shipped, starting to get worried. Order page still says I should expect it on Friday and considering I ordered at 3AM on the dot I would hope so lol.
