I was always under the impression that a shoeless drive was illegal as well - though downunder it may be opposite. That's how the equator works, right? Grew up on a property, so used to go barefoot pretty regularly

I second this, although I'm considering getting the newish Voyager because I miss having the page turn buttons on the edges like the originals had.

Confirmed shoeless driving not illegal in the UK. You can theoretically be charged with a variety of offences, however, if you have an accident whilst driving shoeless.

I'm on pretty thin ice at work after my last performance review. Knowing the office policies, I'm on my last strike. I'd estimate there's roughly a 50% chance I get let go by the end of January.

I've never been fired from a job before so I'm wondering how damaging that is towards finding a new one? Would I be better off putting in my two weeks now so I can at least say I wasn't fired or will it not make much difference if I just ride it out and potentially get fired?
12-09-2017 , 10:22 PM
It really depends. What kind of work do you do?
12-09-2017 , 10:40 PM
Nothing glamorous, basically an entry level customer support job at a bank.

Feel like if I put in my two weeks I could find something comparable almost immediately but wondering how much being fired would change that.
12-09-2017 , 10:48 PM
If you feel like you could find something comparable almost immediately, and you think it's a flip that you're fired within seven weeks, it sounds like you have enough time to find a lateral move in the interim?

Find a new job before you get fired.

Kind of an outside the box idea, but you could try not being a ****ty employee for a little while and see how that goes.
Or just keep doing what you're doing and let it play out.
Whatever you do, definitely don't go out and find another job though!

Doing better at your job seems to be the optimal path. If that isn't an option I would start looking for something else now. Chances of getting employment before Christmas are low but no harm in applying for anything that pops up.
12-10-2017 , 04:39 AM
What were the areas you were found lacking in your performance review? If you try and address these issues you may not get sacked and even if you do it's probably in your best interests to try and improve in these areas. Looking for something else isn't the worst idea but definitely try and not make the same mistakes in your new job. Good luck.
12-10-2017 , 06:12 AM
Now that I thought about it for a while I'm pretty sure that I've been asked whether or not I've been sacked before on job application forms. You really don't want to have that in your references.
12-10-2017 , 07:44 AM
Why are you on thin ice? What have you done wrong?

I was never fired, but was on the hiring side. And if I see someone being fired from a job, it is ALWAYS at least a reason to dig the situation in the interview. It is a red flag and you need a very good story to explain it.

Are you saying that there are offenses you could be charged with if you're not wearing shoes that you wouldn't be charged with if you were wearing shoes? If so, which offenses?
