Howard: if your dentist was more concerned about you keeping your shoes on (which he probably won't even notice) rather than being comfortable then I'd find a new dentist.

Incredibly fascinating shopping story which I wanted to post last month but didn't because oot was discussing eugenics:

I was shopping for earphones, brought them to the counter and paid. I then proceeded to start to walk out while the cashier was busy taking the anti theft stuff off of them. Luckily it wasn't an atm so I didn't lose the earphones and I was able to look at a shelf until I stopped blushing before returning to the counter to collect my goods while pretending I hadn't just paid and then walked out without my purchase.

@BGP,

We’ve all done that kind of thing before.

I’m sure it will shock nobody that I once left my shoes on top of my car when leaving for work. That’s part of a longer anecdote that I fear to characterize as “highly amusing” for obvious reasons. So I’ll say it’s “at least slightly amusing.”

I’m quite sure he likes me. He starts unnecessary conversations with me and we usually chat for a few minutes after the dentistry is done, sometimes about poker and other random subjects.

I think OOT has my weirdness wrong on this specific point.
So.. 6-7 people do this, out of all the patients he's ever treated? Help me understand how this shows your practice is not weird at all?

This is in addition to the other points raised ITT, of course. Sorry H, still super weird.

I did not get a more precise numerical breakdown, of course, as that would have been too weird. But his clear articulation was that shoeless patients were a) routine and b) not at all bothersome to him.

I agree that my view of this is at least slightly odd. But I don’t think it’s over the line to weird. I am of course subjectively biased here, and I admit to so being.

Can confirm that driving while barefoot is legal, but I had to look it up despite having been a lawyer for 10 years

I got a lecture about driving barefoot from a Vermont state trooper in 1982. I remember exactly where he pulled me over, which was about 150 feet over the border from Massachusetts on I-91. I was doing 62 in a 55 zone and the dickhead wrote me a ticket for it. And I got a lecture to boot.

Puns aside, I source my mild rebelliousness on the shoe issue to this event. The trooper was both sanctimonious and unpleasant.

Put me in the thought it was illegal to drive w/o shoes category. That's never kept me from driving shoeless though.

Those ****ers in Council Bluffs Iowa do this too, as you're coming in from Omaha.

If you are on a cross-country trip from the west coast, and you've been burning across 1500 miles at pretty much whatever speed you want, be advised the fun's over when you hit Iowa.

Also **** Iowa.

OT, nice! I was thinking about the pic in the archeology thread.

Ive never once considered that it might be illegal to drive without shoes. I always wear shoes, because the pedals feel weird without.

I picked up these slippers the other day with an old gift card. It’s like walking on freshly laundered towels. Taking these to the dentist and slipping them on might be optimal.

Those look pretty comfy, but I am, alas, mildly allergic to wool.
12-07-2017 , 04:36 PM
woa, that sucks. Wool is the ****.
12-07-2017 , 06:07 PM
Most of the time, it is of no consequence whatever. Every once in a while, it’s excruciatingly annoying. Like the time I was in Korea and it was goddamned cold and I didn’t have warm clothes and the only thing my friend had was a wool sweater, fcuk.

Interesting. I never thought about being allergic to wool, but it irritates the hell out of me.

Which, the thought or the wool?
