I feel like in most relationships I've been in/seen, attempts to change this kind of behavior just kind of paper things over for the short-term and eventually this argument happens ad infinitum until the end.

You seem to be handling it fine. Some people are just wired to do so. Just make sure, before you get married, that you can be fine with it forever. This is not the kind of thing that normally gets better with time.

How was the trip?

They seemed to have a good time. They didn't do as much as I would have expected (because of all the sex!!! amirite???), but I think she was trying to not spend much.

We got back to the house about 5:00 pm on NYE. We immediately opened presents. The girl's big gift was a hoverboard. We took it outside to play with it. She was having some trouble with it. I got on it to try to show her how to do it. I was doing pretty well with it. When I went to get off, I somehow fell straight back. I really don't know what happened. Anyway I ****ed my back really good. I tried to lay down for an hour or so and realized I needed to go to the hospital, if nothing else for something much strong than ibuprofen. The pain was probably the worst pain I've ever felt. So at 7:00 I tell her that i need her to take me to the ER. She looks at me and says, "but I've been up for nearly 24 hours." I'm like wtf? So I ask her if I should call a taxi or ambulance and she says no she'll take me. It turns out I have three spinal fractures. I'm out of work until at least the 21st. I'm just laying on the sofa popping pain pills and watching netflix. The orthopedic surgeon says I don't need surgery and he expects me to make a full recovery. It's just about pain management for now. After the initial reluctance to take me to the ER, she has been OK though she did get a bit pissy when I asked her to put my socks and shoes on to go to the doctor's on Friday.

Well, the inability to get around on wheels may get me to stop reading your name as dalekrob2, so there's some upside.

Dale, was this a Transverse Process Fracture? I broke 3 of these in my back about 8 years ago, and it was by far the most pain I've ever been in. Good news was (and I think this is common) that there were no long-term issues of any kind - it's purely a pain management thing for a few weeks.

How was Biloxi?

it was good. I was a little rusty since I had not played in almost three years. But I managed to win about $300 after hotel and gas. I made two mistakes that cost me $300 I wouldn't make now after shaking the rust off. But it was fun to get out of town and I netted $300 so it was all good.
