I didn't say you were 22, only that you sounded 22. Which is infinitely worse.

Dale, I say this with all due respect.... but couples like these keep the timeshare industry afloat. Many industries actually. When I was in sales and it was a decision to be made among partners, you pivot the entire focus of the sale to whoever is "in control" of the relationship. They in turn sell the other party and make your job as the sales rep a lot easier. Human psychology is so fascinating and consistent...sorry for the mini derail

Anytime you'd like to explain why I sound like I'm 22 and why that's infinitely worse (wrt to this topic), then I'm all ears, otherwise the ad hominems are not really advancing the discourse on the assertion that the mid-40's are the prime age for mate shopping.

You made a good point and "chief" is the only part of it that could be dissected and nit-picked. It's kinda how you know you've won an argument or struck a nerve from someone who identifies with the scenario in your OP.

This. Some of you itt sound horribly controlling. She only wants to take a holiday with her daughter.

yeah, it was a jerk move. He let her know he was hurt, she hopefully feels like a jerk. It's not nearly in the 'no longer want to spend my life with you' sphere imo.

There is so much more going on than just the surface issue of the vacation without him. It is everything about their communication, lack of respect, not caring about his feelings, trying to belittle his reaction, being fiscally irresponsible, and I could continue.

These are the kinds of situations that come up and point to much deep problems than simply a disagreement how to spend Christmas vacation. Lol. That is not even remotely what this is really about!

This is just flat out wrong. The gradient is still positive at 45 if you aren't a fat, poor loser, and even if you are, there are lots of possibilities. It's really much easier than when you're young, picky, and stupid.

Semi-grinch

She had an idea that she and her daughter should do something special together before you are married. Like to show how the daughter is still special. And she also wanted to go to Paris. Those two ideas merged.

Not sharing finances in a marriage is bizarre. If it works for you, great, but bizarre. Sharing finances, stuff, property is like core to being married imo, but w/e.

"It would suck to be mid-40's+ looking for a soulmate. If you don't mind being a middle-aged dude banging randoms from bars (Dom?) like a college frat kid, then I suppose it's moot."

I wouldn't necessarily jump to conclusions the same way as Dom, but the above makes it seem like you haven't experienced that age range yourself and you assume that what people are like changes a lot when they become "old" with old defined as 40+. Reminds me of the David Bainbridge quote "I bought a Lotus [at age 41] because I have wanted one ever since I was eight" the point being that people don't change that much even if any choices they make are interpreted by other people as age-related (e.g. making safe choice because lol middle-aged or alternatively making outlandish choices because lol middle-aged).

Obviously with your posting history you have experienced the age we're talking about.

The thing is, a person is going to be middle-aged, terrible as it is, whatever happens so you can pretty much miss that part of your quote out just say:

"It would suck to be looking for a soulmate. If you don't mind banging randoms from bars (Dom?) like a college frat kid, then I suppose it's moot."

Paris is not fine, if your other half is still wanting to take her 8 year old daughter to paris you better buy them riot gear & rent them a humber.

Europe is not the USA, when they riot it's a ****ing riot mate. There's more than a 40% chance the centre of paris is burning by christmas.

It would have to be a 100% chance of 100% of Paris burning in order to get this woman to change her mind about this. They'll most likely be fine though.

This response is too extreme. The protesters already are planning to move the protests this coming weekend to the Bastille, which is the traditional location for protests.

Also, how would a large tidal estuary on the east coast of northern England help in a riot?

Well for one, they would not be in Paris. Sounds reasonable to me.
