I wouldn't necessarily jump to conclusions the same way as Dom, but the above makes it seem like you haven't experienced that age range yourself and you assume that what people are like changes a lot when they become "old" with old defined as 40+. Reminds me of the David Bainbridge quote
"I bought a Lotus [at age 41] because I have wanted one ever since I was eight" the point being that people don't change that much even if any choices they make are interpreted by other people as age-related (e.g. making safe choice because lol middle-aged or alternatively making outlandish choices because lol middle-aged).
Obviously with your posting history you have experienced the age we're talking about.
The thing is, a person is going to be middle-aged, terrible as it is, whatever happens so you can pretty much miss that part of your quote out just say:
