Maybe was planning on going overseas and didn't get orders to go so now is stuck in the states waiting for the next chance.

Or for a school or something.

ray, i really like your idea of having poster's infractions be their signature or Location or something.

I put a similar suggestion in the mod forum. Basically, I want it to be more about pointing out infracted posts (and why) and less about who it is. I want people to see the kind of posts we infract for so they can avoid repeating those mistakes, but I don't want people to notice someone has three or four infractions and try to steamroll them into a perm ban...

I dunno, we'll see what kind of response if any I get.

Bring back the * system imo!

What about changing the title of the thread? "Junior Seau Drives Off a Cliff (Infracted)"

Last edited by Five-Star; 10-18-2010 at 04:37 PM. Reason: Dont know why they did away with the * system.

Mod should have to put his name in there too. Like: (infracted by Rayp)
10-18-2010 , 04:39 PM
Five Star - For an OP that would work, for posts in the middle of a thread, no one would notice.

Dids - Meh, the * system sucked. And it definitely didn't point out to people what POSTS were bad.

Rich - *shrug* Does it matter? I mean, I don't mind my name being there, but I'm not sure what value it gives anyone. The only person that NEEDS to know who infracted them is the user, and they already get a PM with that info.

I just think it's petty and it would keep mods from abusing it.
10-18-2010 , 04:49 PM
Fair enough. I definitely wouldn't mind. This also goes along with the idea of whether or not users should see what mod banned a user. Some mods would probably against that tho as well.

The * system was awesome. It made for a lot of drama, held ****ty posters accountable, and the unbalanced ones flamed out in epic fashion. I like it just in the name of shaming people.

In terms of making OOT better, I think taking the time (and believe me, I know this is a lot of work) to leave a note when you edit a post or lock a thread is the only way.
10-18-2010 , 04:59 PM
The * system was great.

It's a pretty good approximation to say that posters who need explicit instructions about what fits and what doesn't are unlikely to ever become good posters, regardless of whether they are getting that instruction or not.
10-18-2010 , 05:02 PM
I think the infraction system does the same, but without people picking on posters, but understand your arguments, so fair enough.

Dids, yeah the add a note thing was suggested in the mod forum. I may move to that if no one else likes my idea, and I am not lazy.

And now, off to the back doctor.

New toy time. Dusted off my RC cars recently and decided it was time for a new addition. Anybody into racing RCs? Pretty damn fun as money pits go. This is my first 1/8. Everything else I own is 1/10.

I use to be when I was a kid. I had a Boomerang with a TechniGold engine. I'm sure it is still at my parent's house somewhere. As far as toys go I think they are excellent since you have to actually build them and maintain them which is very different than some RC car from Toys R Us. If I had a kid I would certainly get him one as I think you learn a lot. The problem though is the cost. I have no idea what they cost now but with controller and engine upgrade and a few other modifications I was well into $800+ and that was in the 80s.

I was very frustrated to find out that many models these days, especially nitro, are sold ready-to-run (preassembled) instead of as build it yourself kits. This is the first one I have bought like this, my other 4 cars I built and that was half the fun for sure.

But just like the dude that sold it said...I'll be working on it plenty, don't worry. lol, looking forward to that first set of $50 a-arms when I break them.

Most my cars are Losi and this one is the Losi 8ight T 2.0

Bruiser,

Vape 2 x 7
Cat petting 2 x 5
Cat cuddling 2 x 10

Pretty much fill that in forever.

For a variety of reasons, I lost the necessary interest/drive to do strength training. Sometimes I make to to the gym to get some cardio, but that's about it. I've kept the weight off and that's about as much that matters to me.

I like this version of bruiser

It would be much nicer if we could somehow filter ignore to add all users over a certain number of infraction points; they seem to follow a similar trend. I feel as though making infractions public would also be used as a counter-argument. i.e. (in extreme cases) "L.irVa PMed some people horse porn and isn't banned so why can't I do that"? Or x1 user made y post and got 0 infraction points, but x2 user made y post and got 10 infraction points. In certain forums this may cause more trouble than it's worth, but OOT is more or less homogeneous and objective when it comes to infractions.

@Fat-not-thin - How much on average does one of those cost? Time to build?

That one there cost $800 but comes complete with engine and 2.8 mhz transmitter/receiver electronics. The transmitter also has telemetry readouts for temp, rpm, voltage (sensors on the truck). You can get into this scale (1/8) for about $400-500 or so with some of the other models available.

This was preassembled, but on average, I spent a few days each building my others.

For 1/10 electric, the cars typically are in the $200-400 range but the costs vary a great deal on how much you are willing to spend for batteries, motors and a nice speed controller. You can go anywhere from $200 for starter gear, up to $400+ at the start for just electronics.

So what're OOTer's opinions of the new KOL album 'Come Around Sundown'

No songs seem to really stand out for me atm such as Use Somebody or Sex On Fire from Only By The Night. Kinda disappointed
