I mean.... If I would be so annoyed by anything, I would rather say "no" from the beginning and be relaxed then. It simplifies incredibly all human interaction to just speak your mind.

You didn't demand to cut the line, but asked. Truly, they should've offered to let you go ahead once they saw you only had one item and yes, if they didn't want to let you in, they should've just said no, not insult you or your jacket.
I'm glad you didn't throw insults back and stoop to their level.
