One of the male cats got into fights a lot. We spent thousands on vet bills over the years. Another one loved to bring us presents: mice, rats, birds, lizards. Sometimes alive, sometimes dead, sometimes with internal organs strewn across the floor. Even a live snake once.

They're all dead now and we've since moved to a new place. We might get another one when our daughter is a little older. Just a dog for now.
I think that if you live in a building and area where it's possible for the cat to be an outdoor cat, you gotta let it out, despite all the dangers.

It's sad for us when we lose a pet, but in my mind a 5 year lifespan for an outdoor cat must be more giving and rewarding (for the cat) than 10 for an indoor cat.

Dead cat - Or was it?

On the farm I grew up on we had lots of cats over the years. These were all strictly outdoor cats and the population varied between three and 20+ depending on how many kittens and if they survived the winter. The cats were fed and slept in the garage (detached, about 20 yards from the house). In the winter the cats tended to sleep in the engine compartment (I assume for warmth). This unfortunately led to several times a cat finding it's demise if it was slow to get down when the garage was opened and someone got in the car. Standard procedure was to use a snow shovel to deposit the remains behind one of the out-buildings.

I remember one time when this happened to a kitten. I was sad but animals dying on the farm was just a fact of life. But then one day about two months later I was outside and what did I see coming around the side of a building? The dead cat. He was walking a little funny with his spine not lining up in the direction he was going and his head was dented and at an odd angle. But other than that, he seemed fine. We could only guess that a momma cat brought it food until it could get around on its own. That was one tough cat. It lived another 10+ years.

Guilty.

I just wish our cat would kill the voles on our property instead of on our neighbors'. The neighbors don't seem to mind. Seems to me they would be the nut low as they get the benefits without having to feed the cat and tote his fat ass to the vet.

It is annoying to have to dispose of dead birds courtesy of neighbors' cats.

Lol wut

Some cats are just outdoor cats and absolutely will not stay inside. I tried with mine for about a year as a kitten and she'd find any means of escape she could. When escape wouldnt work, she went for "be annoying as possible" until she got out somehow.

Now she chills at home a lot but I'd rather her be outside and happy than inside bugging the fk out of me. I dont see how it's a nuisance to anyone else, outdoor cats are good pest killers. She bags at least one mouse a night (that i know of) because i find mouse heads randomly on the sidewalk.

Anyway most outdoor, domestic cats in suburban neighborhoods or cities have a really small range and mine is content to mostly hang out in our backyard and will sometimes venture into neighboring yards but that's about it.

Jima's much more likely to find himself in thailand with a shrodinger's dick scenario than a shrodinger's cat situation.

Actually this is pretty standard.

This is because of the role that the amygdala plays in dreaming. The amygdala is the worry center of the brain. So it's common for someone to have a dream that's centered around their recent worrying.
