I read about Paypal snapping off the Charlottesville folks and I can't help but remember the time Paypal snapped off Nimadamus.

I generally have them when I am stressed or obsessing over something. Meditation might be helpful for you or yoga. Exercise in general is probably going to help you sleep better.

I had 4 (outdoor) cats, but looks like I'm down to one. They were all female (fixed), and I think a varmint got 1-2 of them.
I accidentally killed one (very heartbreaking)...

Red,

I'm sorry to hear about your cats. Accidentally killing one of your pets is every pet owners worse nightmare.

LKJ should volunteer to go on exploring expeditions. If they ever run out of food he could sustain the rest of the group indefinitely.

we have a male and female who are littermates and grew up together- the female was hissy and pissy about the new addition for about 24-48 hours, but then she got over it and they're like besties now. the oldest female is an indoor/outdoor cat, and she gets along well with the other cats on our street (nearly every house on our side has at least one, and they never seem to fight)

babs, do you have a cat tree/jungle-gym for chip? if not, you should def get one and place it near a window. cats love to perch up above things and go inside of boxes, and it does wonders for keeping them off the countertops. most all of them have scratching posts built into them as well

Is there some reason that you're randomly sniping at me when I'm not even posting?

Love opening this thread to see multiple new pages.

Babs,
- Driving for Lyft/Uber is totally respectable, as is virtually any legal job where you're doing it well, you're satisfied with the pay, and it doesn't harm anyone.

- Your insurance question was reasonable and I don't know wtf Natamus was going off about. Your particular policy may not provide for cash out options, but there's nothing shady about the concept of getting cash equivalent to compensate you for property damage. Key is, as Diablo and others noted, that any future claims will be challenging because any recoveries will take into account that your car is already damaged, and the insurance company is likely to be very aggressive in deducting for that damage. That foreseeable difficulty in future claims is why insurance companies would choose to not offer that cash out option.

- Glad the turtles are alive

I see. Seemed strange that he would react to some other person giving him an answer he didn't like about his insurance question last night by sniping at me multiple times while I left him alone. It's almost - almost - like he's totally unreasonable when it comes to me.

heartbreaking to think about losing pets, esp when its due to your own negligence. we resisted making our oldest female an indoor/outdoor, but she escaped one night (came back the next morning) and ever since then, she was insufferable about wanting to go back out. while we love her and dont want to see any harm come to her (knowing that letting her outside has a certain level of danger), we also didn't want to be oppressors, want her to be happy, so we got her shots and microchipped and she stays out from morning to night every day, coming in briefly for water/food once or twice.

Babs,

What kind of turtles are those? They look similar to the red-ear slider that our kid left us to raise when he went to college, but I'm no turtle expert.

The turtle has turned out to be way more entertaining than I ever thought and he's low maintenance--for me, at least, as my wife cleans his tank when necessary. That sumbitch leads a good life!

My wife and I had a bunch of cats after she moved in to my place (I had 2, she had 2, sort of like the Brady Bunch). We had a cat door so they could come and go as they pleased. I think cats are way happier when they can go outside but that does come with its share of troubles.

One of the male cats got into fights a lot. We spent thousands on vet bills over the years. Another one loved to bring us presents: mice, rats, birds, lizards. Sometimes alive, sometimes dead, sometimes with internal organs strewn across the floor. Even a live snake once.

They're all dead now and we've since moved to a new place. We might get another one when our daughter is a little older. Just a dog for now.

I dont want to get the car fixed, the car is still driveable and the damage not that noticeable

But they will only issue supplemental payment to the auto body shop

Yes, he wants cash equal to the total estimated damage. Total estimated damage is close to 4k. Insurance company is willing to give him (already has given him) $634 if he doesn't get it repaired, but will pay out the full 4k (less deductible) if he does get it repaired.

Underlying question is still reasonable, regardless of whether the insurance company made some preliminary payment.

Babs is noting that the damage isn't a big deal, which is why he won't bother to get it fixed.

The insurance company is only giving him a smaller payout if he doesn't bother to get it fixed, because it's not a big deal.

He's trying to cheat them.

Pretty sure the $4k estimate is from his coke dealer who's uncle use to be a mechanic.

This is me making a short story long about how I accidentally killed my cat:

I had 3 rescue cats that took kindly to the new little one that someone dropped off.
I'm building a pond on my very isolated property and had been burning tree etc for a few days. The little one somehow stepped onto some smoldering tree trunks and burned her paws pretty badly.
When I went out to my truck I actually banged on it couple of time (never done this before) to make sure a cat wasn't sleeping underneath. I started the car and heard a thump and got out to check but saw or heard nothing. Went to church and came back and looked under the truck at the radiator fan and there she was, dead. It was difficult to get her out of the fan and very sad. I should have been more careful...
