Backtesting for team sports is a nightmare because you usually have to recreate the whole league and rosters as they were week-by-week through the season.

Also backtesting often leads to backfitting where you add conditions and epicycles that may make no ****ing sense at all just to produce a set of winning results from the available history.

You can back test a few months back though and produce similar results, especially considering how broad in scope this system appears to be. 4 sports, overs, unders, point totals, what else? Gotta be able to find some filters to apply.

Tbh it looks to me like he thinks he's discovered some structural weakness in the bookies' odds rather than actually doing any real handicapping per se.

There are definitely some exploitable market edges in sports betting, but they're not common and tend to be rather small or illiquid, the markets are largely efficient.

Just as an old example, I had a good time back in the 1980's backing every single UK soccer match as a 3-3 draw at 80-1. True odds were about 63-1 iirc. Quite an edge, but the huge losing runs meant that I could never put real money behind it. Then someone pointed out the discrepancy in the press and next week all the coupons went to 50-1. Bye bye system.

I don't see any other way that he could have a system that even pretended to work across such a diverse portfolio of sports. But yeah, if he can't actually get those lines with the books then it's all air.

I'm no Alfred Einstein, but it looked to me like he was just picking the teams that had the most line movement (if Boston went from a 3 to a 5 point fav, he took Boston)..

my favorite part about that covers thread is how he decided that the only way he could chase losses was by swearing that his system had a new component that required he could only make picks a 30 min before a game. that had the added bonus of being able to utilize obsolete lines.
