I only learned of Dr. Eben Alexanders inside the last 6 months but he has a ruined reputation also. He is a disgraced neurosurgeon and has been barred from around 3 hospitals for disgraceful reasons. If his story is factually true -- it confirms my belief that God only gives evidence of his existence to people with ruined reputations.

TL;DR: A ruined reputation (such as Nima's) is a necessary, but insufficient, condition for God proving to you he is real. (imho)
