near me, the DC area they have these joints with Pollo in their name
Pollo means chicken but all of these joints are Peruvian chicken
it's marinated for a long time in their special spices and then put into a rotisserie device
the flavor goes all the way thru to all the meat - it doesn't stop at the skin
it's fast - when you order they pull a whole chicken out of the device and cut it into the pieces that you want
this stuff is excellent IMO - 5 star
Bruh. I spent 5 years living in Arlington after college, El Pollo Rico on Wilson Blvd is probably the #1 thing I miss (probably 1a and 1b with The Italian Store subs). It's been almost 15 years, and every now and then I'll get a memory of that sweet, juicy, delicious chicken and get misty eyed. When I lived there I think a quarter chicken w/ fries, coleslaw and sauce was like $3.75 or $4.25 or something insanely cheap like that too. I would of course usually do half chicken for $6.25 or whatever they were giving it away for. Last year I was back in the area and made a special hour detour to grab lunch there. Price was definitely higher, 7 or 8 bucks for quarter chicken meal IIRC, but the flavor was spot on.
I've found and tried a couple Peruvian chicken places in Seattle within the last year, but the prices were too high and the flavor wasn't as good. Appreciate what you got, DC-ites.
