That sounds like a thing that deserves popularity.

Was not sure what I was in the mood for last night, thought about chick fil a, but then opened the BK app on a whim. What deals! 2 whopper/fries/drink meals for $9. 2 whoppers and 2 crispy chickens for $11. 10 nuggets for $1.49 still in there. One or two other good ones I can't remember at the moment. But the one I decided to go with was the taste test: 1 regular whopper and 1 impossible whopper for $7. Also, because I had heard BH rave about it multiple times itt, I threw on a spicy crispy chicken sandwich.

I came away pretty impressed with the impossible whopper. When you tear off a piece of the patty and eat it by yourself, it's honestly pretty close to beef flavor and texture, but you can definitely tell the difference. Not bad in any way, but not the exact same. However, when taken as a bite of the sandwich it is really, really close to the original. So much of the sandwich flavor profile comes from the tomato/pickle/onion/ketchup/mayo, that all together it would be really easy to confuse the two if you weren't paying close attention. Now, I purposefully did not get the beef whopper off the broiler, and instead got a average whopper where the patty seemed slightly dry. I'd say the impossible whopper is 98% as good as an average, non-broiler whopper. Which is pretty darn good based on what my expectation of a plant burger would have been a few years ago.

The spicy chicken sandwich was pretty great! It reminded me very closely to what Wendy's spicy chicken tasted like back when it was great in the 90s, particularly the bun and mayo tastes mixed with the spice. The breading was slightly different but the seasoning was spot on. I would definitely rather have this than the Wendy's version now. I think it was a little bit small for a $6 sandwich, but that could be variance too. I wish I had not saved the chicken sandwich for last because I had told myself I wouldn't eat all 3, but it was too good to only eat half of and I ended up finishing that too. Would rather have left off a couple burger bites. Instead just got over stuffed.

Happy with my trip and will remember to check that app for deals since McD's and Wendy's have lost their touch. I did feel like I was dying of thirst a couple of hours later for the rest of the night, I suspect I may have exceeded my doctor's recommendation for sodium for 1 meal. Oops.

Nice report! Spicy chickens should be purchased in multiples of 2, or paired with a Whopper for $3 each.

Went to Popeyes, line was out of control long and they weren’t accepting walk in customers, so I had BOGO for $1 spicy chickens at Wendy’s up the street, and their line was also out of control. Went to Del Taco instead, had a beyond avocado taco that was actually quite good and I liked better than the Del Taco I had. So that was an interesting surprise.

I won't even dare head to my local Popeye's.

Can't handle the swings. So I'll stick to my fixed limit BK Spicy Chicken sandwich.

There are Del Tacos all over the place. Which is great.

Yeah I miss Del Taco. 3 Chicken Soft Tacos for $2.xx on Tuesdays IIRC was insane good value. Those things were delicious.

When I moved to Seattle I saw Taco del Mar and thought it might be able to replace Del Taco for me. Those two establishments may have the widest gap of any two fast food same-cuisine restaurants out there. God Taco del Mar is horrible.

I drove to Popeyes to try the new chicken sandwich. They were sold out. I couldn't find anything reasonably priced on their menu. I was also irritated that their "Dine-In Deal" did not include a drink. I left.

I went next door to Wendy's. Wendy's was sold out of fries. I left.

I went to Burger King and got the $3 double cheeseburger, fries, and a soda deal. It was edible.

I think Popeyes actually isn't out of their new chicken sandwich when they say they are.

They're just doing this to create buzz + massive frenzy over it.

Or they simply didn't expect people to freak the **** out over a chicken sandwich.

I have to admit, this appears to be unprecedented (as a national phenomena). I can't think of another fast food example similar to the current Popeyes chicken sandwich frenzy.

Closest think I can think of is maybe Krispy Kreme.

I told you that I went to a Popeyes today and had to leave because the line was insane. Later in the day in a totally different part of town, I drove past a Popeyes who also had a line that was absolute madness. It’s ridiculous. And, it doesn’t say anything positive about anything either.

Anything noteworthy about Popeye's marketing to reach this point?

I still haven't had it yet, but I think they just made a great sandwich.

Yep, saw a KK grand opening a few years ago. 3 to 4 hour lines for weeks.

Is Popeyes getting all this from word of mouth?
The app doesn't seem to mention the sandwich. Haven't seen any ads for it.

There's a picture of them when you open the app. Also there is this commercial but I haven't seen it on TV during this latest hysteria:

Get the app and also make sure to look on the windows before you walk in for the specials. There's also almost always a $5 box promotion running as well.
