Was not sure what I was in the mood for last night, thought about chick fil a, but then opened the BK app on a whim. What deals! 2 whopper/fries/drink meals for $9. 2 whoppers and 2 crispy chickens for $11. 10 nuggets for $1.49 still in there. One or two other good ones I can't remember at the moment. But the one I decided to go with was the taste test: 1 regular whopper and 1 impossible whopper for $7. Also, because I had heard BH rave about it multiple times itt, I threw on a spicy crispy chicken sandwich.
I came away pretty impressed with the impossible whopper. When you tear off a piece of the patty and eat it by yourself, it's honestly pretty close to beef flavor and texture, but you can definitely tell the difference. Not bad in any way, but not the exact same. However, when taken as a bite of the sandwich it is really, really close to the original. So much of the sandwich flavor profile comes from the tomato/pickle/onion/ketchup/mayo, that all together it would be really easy to confuse the two if you weren't paying close attention. Now, I purposefully did not get the beef whopper off the broiler, and instead got a average whopper where the patty seemed slightly dry. I'd say the impossible whopper is 98% as good as an average, non-broiler whopper. Which is pretty darn good based on what my expectation of a plant burger would have been a few years ago.
The spicy chicken sandwich was pretty great! It reminded me very closely to what Wendy's spicy chicken tasted like back when it was great in the 90s, particularly the bun and mayo tastes mixed with the spice. The breading was slightly different but the seasoning was spot on. I would definitely rather have this than the Wendy's version now. I think it was a little bit small for a $6 sandwich, but that could be variance too. I wish I had not saved the chicken sandwich for last because I had told myself I wouldn't eat all 3, but it was too good to only eat half of and I ended up finishing that too. Would rather have left off a couple burger bites. Instead just got over stuffed.
Happy with my trip and will remember to check that app for deals since McD's and Wendy's have lost their touch. I did feel like I was dying of thirst a couple of hours later for the rest of the night, I suspect I may have exceeded my doctor's recommendation for sodium for 1 meal. Oops.
