At Texas Roadhouse you get to throw peanut shells on the floor. The nearest one to me is about 6 miles away and I’m thinking about making my first visit in a decade or so.
Significant self-ownage at Culver's tonight. Decided to try the pork tenderloin sandwich based on solid reviews ITT. Didn't realize you had to specify how you wanted it dressed, they didn't ask, I was driving through. It came plain. Still quite good and I can see ordering it again but it really would have been great with some sauce of some kind.
Also grating to see it advertised as the feature of the day at a discounted price only to check the receipt later and see that I got charged full price.
Yeah that pork tenderloin is a little weird that way at culvers. I usually do lettuce tomato pickles and mayo which seems to be a solid combo for that sandwich. Sucks they didn't tell you it comes plain or if you want anything on it. It's a tasty option though!
I tried the BK pretzel covered chicken fries today. Now, a) they were from the airport, and b) they looked to have been sitting a while. But wow, what an awful item. They are not at all crispy, more firm and chewy, maybe slightly crunchy. They reminded me of the worst chicken nuggets ever made that you used to get from the public school cafeteria. I'm pretty surprised they made it past whatever testing they do for these things, I have trouble imagining anyone liking them.
Meanwhile my whopper & onion rings were on point. The whopper beef was overdone and also seemed to have been sitting around, but the veggies and mayo/ketchup overcame all that. And I forgot how much I enjoyed BK onion rings + zesty sauce. That stuff is legit.
Went to Chick Fil-A for breakfast, got the chicken biscuit meal. Biscuit and hash browns both slightly interior to Whataburger's. Biscuit more white-bready, browns undercooked and a little mealy. Chicken piece was good, coulda been bigger. Coffee was great and they welcome refills, so CFA might win that. Whatacoffee is self-serve but I think their official policy is no free refills.
Overall there's a sterile soul-less vibe to my CFA in the morning that I just can't shake, hard to pin down exactly what it is.
White Castle TR
Wanted to expand my WC horizons as their menu has expanded greatly from back in the day when cheese fries were the new thing.
2 grilled chicken
2 chicken ring sliders w/ cheese
2 double cheese no pickle
6 cheese no pickle
large onion petals w/ zesty
$20.xx
For the record, onion petals, 4 cheeseburgers, and a grilled chicken didn't make the 30 minute ride home. Rest was dinner some 5 hours later. A minute in the microwave and all was good.
Took a good while at the window but well worth it as everything was fresh and onion petals were straight from the fryer. Almost too hot to munch right away. Almost. Zesty sauce is exactly the same as BK zesty, a very good thing. A+ Will order again.
Cheeseburgers were as usual. Same with dbl cheese.
Grilled chicken isn't standard grill mark. It looks baked. All white meat and well spiced and surprisingly juicy. Good enough to be eaten plain on a (nicely steamed) bun. B+
Chicken ring slider were disappointing. Kinda bland. Not enough chicken to be a sandwich. Might try chicken rings as a nugget substitute for sauce dipping. C
