I love Five Guys burgers and I agree with your assessment of the fixins. I also do not love the fries.
But you're the first person I've ever heard say that the cajun fries are "gross." In my opinion (and the opinions of everyone else I know IRL), the cajun fries are many times better than the regular fries and almost as good as other fast food fries generally. It's the regular fries there that are "gross," if anything there could be called gross.
If you're in downtown DC and regularly go to the Five Guys @ Metro Center, walk an extra block or two to Ollie's Trolley next time to change things up.
