A long time ago I used to hit Denny's for breakfast for lunch a couple times a week, you could get a slam for $3.99 or something super reasonable. They weren't as good as Perkins but it was cheaper.

The last time I went to one was at least 5 years ago and it was awful. Cheapest worst sausage links ever, terrible job with the bacon and eggs.

And lol at paying $18 for any meal at Denny's ever. That's highway robbery.

I'm surprised how many locations they still have, the ones I'd been to in Michigan are gone.

Dammit now I want a Tremendous Twelve.

Don't think I've eaten at a IHOP/ Denny's since HS.

Even without the use of yelp I'll always gamble on the local place.

Found a place in the foothills of MT. Rainier that served 6(!!!!) Egg skillets for like $9. Also had a 2 egg breakfast with all the fixings for $5 in Steeleville, MO. Both rank among my best breakfast dining exp of all time.

I've also had some pretty bad experiences with fake eggs and what not. No Regerts

Also the pro move at any breakfast place is to get pancakes instead of toast. Mix those sweet sugary devil's with the salty rest of the meal and baby you got yourself a stew.

Denny's has amazing nachos. Trust me on this.

That and a grand slam burger (bacon, fried egg, cheese, hasbrowns on top of a flat top grilled burger & onion bun) with the seasoned fries on the side.

Usually comes out to around $17-18 so probably not the best value, but it's the only thing I'll eat at Denny's. Whatever queso they use for those nachos is great.

Stay away from that horrible value breakfast menu and Denny's ain't bad as a drunk go-to with friends.

Omg youre right.l! Dont buy ****ing scrambled eggs and dough at Dennys!

As is, I haven't been in years because i finally said **** that! Any of you Northwesterners go to Shari's? I swear its a notch below Dennys and IHOP. That was a cool place to go when I was young because it was the only 24hr option in the town I grew up in. Now I live across the street from one, took me two years to go to it, and it will be the last time I ever go. Just such a stupid disgrace of a franchise. May the sweet ****ing lord have mercy on your soul if you're someone who goes there at a time that isnt between midnight and sunrise.

In the Seattle area McD is among the most expensive options with the worst app and coupon deals. We get free fries fridays and that's basically it. Also the 1 2 3 option but that won't last long.

$4 for 1/4lb of fast food mystery meat no thanks. Not in my America.

Tried waffle house once. You need to be drunk or nursing a hangover to consider that ish edible or a decent value IMO. but open 24 hours possible night saver

Few more thoughts on fast casual breakfast:

1. I totally forgot Original Pancake House. Quality varies by location, but the good ones are a hair above Perkins, still well behind Waffle House.

2. Anyone else from Western PA/Ohio/WV that has experience with Eat n Park? I grew up with it, went to one over Thanksgiving for the first time in years, and man was it crappy. Service sucks, it's not cheap at all, and I couldn't find a single menu item that looked particularly interesting or well executed. So many good diners in Pittsburgh, no reason for me to ever go back there.

3. Pigging out on the buffet at Shoneys on a hungover college morning was always fun

i deleted the post due to an error on the gargantuan price. it's $8.99 - still okay value, rest of the sandwiches are abhorrently priced. i live in a suburb.

Perkins is great for breakfast, although there are bad Perkins out there. Ones in small towns tend to be much better than ones in big cities. Dennys is the same way I think. One of the best Dennys I've been to was in some podunk town off the interstate in Oklahoma, just east of the Texas state line. Every other Dennys I've been to was in a big city and was terrible.

Original Pancake House is so much better than Waffle House. Shouldn’t even be mentioned together.

Yeah I’m on this but I didn’t think OPH was all that widespread

I haven't been there for a few years but in the NW there's a place called Elmer's that's much better than Denny's. I'm not sure how it would compare to these other places mentioned I haven't been to.

Forgive me if I am touching on a fast food restaurant already mentioned, I just joined 2+2 recently and haven't gone through almost 1700 pages of this thread.

My recommendation to anyone visiting the Chicagoland area would have to be Portillos. Whether you're looking for a hot dog, jumbo dog, cheeseburger, Italian beef dipped with mozzarella cheese and hot or sweet peppers, you can't go wrong here.

i went to one about 6 months ago because it was stupid early in the morning and i was hungry. i didn't have a problem with it at all...ordered a pretty standard two eggs over easy/hashbrowns/bacon/toast and there was nothing wrong with it. i don't remember it being horribly overpriced other than the few dollar markup you'd expect for breakfast at a chain place open at 5:30am.

Elmer's is what IHOP/Denny's/Shari's are trying to be (or used to be). solid food quality, charging a few dollars more than they should. i blame the ****ty IHOP/Denny's and their inflated prices for allowing decent places like Elmer's to charge more than they should.

OPH docked points for being way more expensive and having some locations that suck (the one I went to in Chicago was atrocious).

Denny's has very good and dirt-cheap biscuits and gravy (to be fair, a tough dish to screw up)

Probably been talked about before but i don’t think anyone will jump down your throat for mentioning a place known to be tasty. FWIW we have this and some other Chicago spots in AZ now but i haven’t been to any of them. There’s a hot dog/Italian beef chain here that is pretty mediocre.

Now you guys have me searching for an Italian beef place near me. Probably the food I miss most from Chicago. And yeah Portillos does a very good version of it.

I didn't realize people got them with mozzarella. I always just did the basic beef/hot peppers/gravy.
