Just went to 5 Guys, got a double bacon cheeseburger, and it was phenomenal. I never thought I'd say this(this is from a man who loves his potatoes) they give you too many fries. I wish there was an option for smaller order or fries. Minor complaint though, outstanding burger.

I don't get to cookout much since they are on the other side of town, but I went and had this today. So good, the cheerwine float was great

Nice link thanks, some I'd never heard of. And seriously, In and Outs are the most efficiently run operations I've ever seen. Their crews of perky suburban teenagers are a little frightening now that I think about it.

I don't even eat much fast food but I love these threads because of the passion!

Anyone in Canada have an opinion of Hero Burger? That's where I usually go for my rare fast food kick, and it seems better than I remember more popular chain burgers.

I seem to remember asking him this before and being sorely disappointed with the results. I was sure though that he was either 300 pounds or <150, he has to have the highest fast food : posts ratio in the forums

I would really like to discuss my favorite fast food item of all time: The BBQ McRib from McDonalds. This was one of the greatest food items in all of fast food history, despite the controversy that surrounded it. Please discuss. Look up all the marketing schemes that have gone into this thing; it's ridiculous.

Been a few months since I had Five Guys so I hit that up tonight.

bacon cheeseburger w/mayo, lettuce, tomato and raw onion. regular Cajun fries (a bit overseasoned imo, but everything was great as usual). The downside, of course, to Five Guys is the expense - $9.21 for just the burger and fries, no drink. Pricey, but I don't think anyone else in the fast(ish) food game touches these burgers or fries in terms of quality.

What's the big yellow thing under the hamburger patty? It can't be all cheese right? Fried egg?

just cheese - there's a second patty under there that the cheese is melted over, making it look larger than it actually is.

$9.21 for the burger and fries is my biggest big turnoff about 5 Guys.

In-N-Out is half of that.

Love 5 guys, but that looks like too much mayo. A1 FTW.

5 Guys was out of my way, I went there because this thread reminded me of them. I forgot how expensive they were. The line has to be drawn somewhere on price. I think for me that line is somewhere around $8 on a general fast food outing. That burger has gotta be worth the price once in a while though.

Also, has A&W been utterly ignored in this entire thread?

I had always assumed that A&W was one of those ones that went the way of the drive-in movie theater, but this is based almost entirely on having only seen a hollowed out shell of one in RI.

A&Ws are, afaik, expanding rather than contracting. I'm certainly a big fan of fresh draft root beer.

I think five guys is pretty good but for $9.21, I can get a bar burger that will be as good if not better. So unless if I'm in a rush, I don't really stop by five guys or any fast food place that charges more than $6.50 for a burger and fries.

9.21 with (well above average) fries + tip (I'm including tip because obviously you're tipping in a bar but not at 5guys)? That amount of food, if you're familiar with the size of the regular-doubles and regular fries, puts you in food-coma territory. You're also getting it in ~ 10 minutes. I'm guessing you can find that in some fly-over state bars, but slim-to-none chance you're getting that in most places.

I've never been to an in-n-out, but 5 guys seems to be firmly in between a good-restaurant burger and the top of the true fast food restaurants, and the price seems to reflect that fairly, IMO.
