that’s one of the primary reasons I eat a whole lot more from local places instead of national chains.
I like the local stuff, too. Sadly, though, their COVID-era pricing seems to be increasing more quickly, and to a greater degree, than the national chains'. And that's the trouble with big wages for menial work. Economies of scale or whatever allow McDonald's et al to absorb big labor costs elsewhere over thousands of outlets. The Sausage Deli on First and Grant has one store and very few options but to raise prices and hope people love their sammiches enough to pay a more significant increase. Not being political, RedEyes--I love local grub.
My favorite local Italian joint had to close one of their two stores (the one close to my place (fml)) during the early shutdown. Not a single Pizza Hut or Carraba's around here will close, I'd bet. From my perspective, it's more a catch-22 than a political stance. Restaurant margins suck.
But I digress. Apologies.
