Empanada side note, for anyone in the LA area, there is a farmer's market on Sundays in Studio City and there is an empanada stand there that I have become absolutely addicted to. Like for real. I HAVE to go get a few every single Sunday, no matter what.
And probably on four separate occasions, a person standing in line near me has started a convo with me asking if I've ever had these and when I reply yes, they look around as if preparing to tell me a secret, and then very intensely say something to the effect of "They're like ridiculously good, aren't they?"
And there is a moment of a quiet, shared understanding that we have stumbled upon something magnificent, possibly even perfect. We don't understand it, and our lack of ability to grasp just why they're so ****ing good just adds to their mystique. Like, there's no rational reason why they should be so good. I've had plenty of empanadas in my life and they tend to have a pretty high floor and ceiling, but never transcendently good like these are.
I recommend the mushroom, the spinach, and the ground beef. I'll take pics next time.
This Sunday marks the fourth Sunday in a row that I've been out of town and I am filled with the sad.
