It tasted good. Just not better than Wendy's.

One bite with the biscuit and the rest by itself.

Maybe she just don't like creepy old men. She didn't make me feel welcome there.
The girl that brought my food was very nice. Just as I expected everyone there to be.

CFA is definitely a notch above JITB and McDs. And on a par with Wendy's and Carl's Jr but not better.

Good point. Similarly I just went to Taco Bell and scooped the ground beef out from my Doritos Locos taco and it was pretty lame, don't get why anyone eats there.

Also I tried to talk to the lady behind the counter about my fantasy football team and she didn't seem interested, wtf.

Oh I just remembered another thing I love at CFA, they have those cups of melted cheese just like the ones with the new fries at taco bell. Awesome for the waffle fries or nuggets, and really would probably be a good addition to anything on the menu.

Alright who’s up for a live trip report? A Blake’s Lottaburger (New Mexico chain) opened near my place and it’s the only fast food within like 5-10 minutes so we’ve been meaning to try it out. My friend who is from NM said she likes the Frito Pie but this was for science so my wife and I each got the LOTA burger with fixings, cheese, and green chile, the signature item of NM while splitting seasoned and regular fries and a chocolate milk shake.

Burger: first things I noticed were 1) looks like a pretty standard frozen patty and 2) the bun is ****ty quality, like no frills brand from the supermarket. Toppings were mustard, onions, lettuce, and pickles (no tomato for me). The green chili makes the burger as one of the spicier elements I’ve ever had at a fast food place. If you were to just eat the meat and bun by itself, it would be bottom tier FF but as a package it’s not bad, a bit below Wendy’s and In N Out. Some people have told me it’s like Whataburger and that seems fair, though I haven’t been to one in years and it may in fact be better than Blake’s. Tough one to rate, I’ll say 6.5/10 thanks to the spiciness.

Fries: standard FF fare, not complaining but nothing special. Seasoned didn’t add much. 7/10 because fries are fries. No special dipping sauces were offered so eaten with ketchup.

Shake: see above, pretty much exactly the same as other FF places. They did not have any signature shake flavors and service in general was not great, had to wait at drive thru window when the person disappeared and then pull up and wait for my food in a parking spot. Could be due to the place being relatively new.

Overall pretty average, I could see returning because of the convenience but not because I’m craving it. If you don’t have one in your area I don’t think you’re missing much but the green chile at least gives it something distinct.

Stopped by TB again for some nacho fries. A steal for $1. They remind me of Andy Capp's Hot Fries.

CFA has cheese sauce??

Why am I just now finding out about this?!? Slowest pony ever.

Is it a nacho cheese sauce like at TB or more of a cheddar?

It is definitely thicker than your usual nacho cheese or the Taco Bell cheese. Probably closer to melted cheddar though not exactly. They had it at the one I used to go to in the Chicago loop. I haven't been to CFA since moving to California so no idea if they have it here.

Went to Jimmy Johns today and the girl mentioned that starting in June they will have: wheat baguette-style bread (sliced wheat is not going away), ranch dressing, spicy ranch made in store using the cherry peppers, and sliced pickles as a sandwich topping.

And despite that, I’d still rather have Jersey Mike’s.

Jiggy,

Great trip report. But whataburger > Wendy’s!

As i contemplate a jack in the box run, here are my thoughts:

IME the munchie box burgers are not good at all. Every single one. Low quality.

However, the humble Jumbo Jack and Ultimate Cheeseburger combos have never let me down. Just their discount options suck.

Just used a Burger King coupon, #6485. 2 Croissan'wich meals for $5, can't beat the price. Tasted good, the little round hash browns were slightly overdone but that's the way to err with the fried potatoes imo. Saved one Croi' for later. Now a BK croissant is no Whataburger biscuit let's be honest, but it's ok.

This has always been a decent BK as BK goes, they've recently re-opened after a remodel so it's all new staff. Mexican lady who waited on me was friendly and efficient, I think she liked me.

Not sure I agree but again it’s been ages since I had whataburger so I’ll have to sample it again in the near future.

Jiggy,

To be fair, in the past 20 years I've been to Wendy's once for a spicy chicken sandwich, and it has been longer than that since I last went to Whataburger. So my ratings may be a little outdated!

I went to whataburger outside of Dallas in September. The experience sucked. Drive thru: 9:10 order, 9:26 pay, 9:37 get food. Burger was fine at best, middle of the road FF burger.. They do have spicy ketchup, though this is more novel than good.

I've drunkenly waited 90+ minutes after bar closing time, as most Texans have. In a lot of places it's the only place open. I've never came across a whataburger that gives a **** about wait times. Pattymelt is the pro move there, add jala or bacon if you're fancy.

Yeah that's crazy man. This is 9pm and I didn't wait at all to get up to place an order. Then we were just trapped in the drive thru for like a half hour. Never again. If friends are making a run though I'll try the pattymelt and update

Although I'm sad to see that Lottaburger place didn't live up to the hype, youve inspired me to bring home a burger (probably from In n Out) and add green chiles to it some time this week.

Was there hype? I just wanted to go because it was new and convenient - wouldn’t have driven across town for it. Also you can get chopped chilis on your burger at In N Out, though I find them to make everything tase a bit too salty.
