Alright who’s up for a live trip report? A Blake’s Lottaburger (New Mexico chain) opened near my place and it’s the only fast food within like 5-10 minutes so we’ve been meaning to try it out. My friend who is from NM said she likes the Frito Pie but this was for science so my wife and I each got the LOTA burger with fixings, cheese, and green chile, the signature item of NM while splitting seasoned and regular fries and a chocolate milk shake.
Burger: first things I noticed were 1) looks like a pretty standard frozen patty and 2) the bun is ****ty quality, like no frills brand from the supermarket. Toppings were mustard, onions, lettuce, and pickles (no tomato for me). The green chili makes the burger as one of the spicier elements I’ve ever had at a fast food place. If you were to just eat the meat and bun by itself, it would be bottom tier FF but as a package it’s not bad, a bit below Wendy’s and In N Out. Some people have told me it’s like Whataburger and that seems fair, though I haven’t been to one in years and it may in fact be better than Blake’s. Tough one to rate, I’ll say 6.5/10 thanks to the spiciness.
Fries: standard FF fare, not complaining but nothing special. Seasoned didn’t add much. 7/10 because fries are fries. No special dipping sauces were offered so eaten with ketchup.
Shake: see above, pretty much exactly the same as other FF places. They did not have any signature shake flavors and service in general was not great, had to wait at drive thru window when the person disappeared and then pull up and wait for my food in a parking spot. Could be due to the place being relatively new.
Overall pretty average, I could see returning because of the convenience but not because I’m craving it. If you don’t have one in your area I don’t think you’re missing much but the green chile at least gives it something distinct.
