Yea, that's what I was getting at re: great/unexpected cinematography

Would love to take that drive someday

I didn’t see the film but the H3 is pretty cool
Especially after it’s been raining pretty good. It’s like way down the list of gorgeous Hawaii drives though.

Netflix definitely found another gold mine in true crime documentaries.
Binged it this weekend. If you enjoy having your blood boiled as you learn about incompetent police and vulture journalists, this is the documentary for you.

I feel like it could have been a ~3 hour special, each episode goes in a different direction and then surprise that was a dead end too. I understand this is how actual investigations develop, but I found it a little frustrating at times...like Netflix is forcing the story into a season of episodes instead of just telling the story.

Overall though I thought it was well put together and just very sad and kind of scary, especially if you have kids.

It lost steam in the last couple of episodes.

Early ballots are in on LoveDeathRobots, and it's gotten a 9.2 on IMDB so far. Though I'm not uber impressived with what I've seen.

Sorry to distract from Ben Affleck discussion. Hes's a real cutie though.

Lovedeathrobot was very disappointing to me. Some cool concepts but the 15 min format didn't work. It was either too long or too short.
Very few episodes were anything more than cool but forgettable at best and 2/3 were bland.
Trying to go for the black mirror vibe was a terrible idea when you can't deliver.
It was way too many episodes at once and they focused too much on visuals and not enough on the story telling.

I'm watching Bodyguard right now, it's not great but it must be watchable cause I haven't quit yet, 2 eps in. I wish the evil cougar politician lady was better looking. Main actor is Jon Snow's older brother, seems less wolfy without his hair.

It's pretty damning of the parents' role in this. No surprise they wanted to stop this from being released.
How is this as a whole? 8 episodes is a lot to commit to but I’m tempted.

I'm 6 episodes in and have found it watchable enough to see it through. It makes the press (not exactly a surprise) and the Portuguese police look really bad.

I feel a lot more sympathy for the McCanns after watching this (taking into the account their negligence, which led to Madeleine's abduction).

Watched After Life from Ricky Gervais during the weekend, basically watched it in one go. Fantastic piece, really enjoyable, would definitely recommend!

This is an interesting article about the realities of Netflix business model and why almost no shows will ever last more than three years/ thirty episodes.

Dawn Wall was v interesting. It’s basically Free Solo w/ ropes. Obviously that takes a bit of the shine off, but Tommy Caldwell is interesting enough to carry the movie.

I think as a poker player I can really relate to smashing your head against a wall in order to break through it. The commitment and focus these guys have is almost super natural.

Watched the first episode and it dragged. Seemed like they kept rehashing the same points over and over. At some point it seemed like they were discussing events several days after the abduction but it was actually only the next morning/day. Stopped watching as I couldn't see lasting for 8 episodes.

I’d never heard about any of it, and was told: (Major spoiler)
Spoiler:
she is still missing

It's not a major spoiler. The opening frame of the series is asking people to call UK or Portuguese police if you have info on her whereabouts

Seems to me like Netflix business model is decidedly suboptimal unless they are going the early amazon route of sacrificing profitability in order to make their service so valuable people are forced to use it.

For one, with all the original series they have that people can’t do without they should be charging substantially more than $10 month. For another, their account sharing policies are WAY too lax. My brothers account is used by him, three of his friends, my parents, and me, 6 freaking households on one single account. They should limit it to one or maybe two households per account and use IP address and 2step stuff to authorize.

Finally they should definitely add a premium section where you can buy/rent new studio releases as you can with Amazon and iTunes

fantastic. three may be a little short but I can count on my fingers the number of shows that maintained quality past season 5, especially the season long storyline format and not a collection of one-off episodes

Started watching I’m Sorry. I’m only 1 episode in but it’s good so far. It’s a comedy that reminds me of The League a little. It’s vulgar so if hearing ****, ****, & pussy bothers you then it’s probably not for you.

All the info in the article may be right however many of the claims the author makes begin with the phrase "I hear".

Love Death & Robots was pretty fantastic. I liked the Heist, Yogurt, the farming one. Graphics were unbelievable, obv. The Topher Grace episode ripping off sci-fi + The Simpsons was by far the worst.
