Spoiler:
In the episode when he is released pending a retrial,
Micheal says to his lawyer and the PI "I told you It would be a good thing to have this filmed" Pretty sure the filmmakers were paid by him to do the actual filming, and they also divvy up any distribution rights fees they got over the years.

If they were paid by him it doesn't really make a lot of sense for the defense to give them interviews etc as they would surely make the documentary biased on his side otherwise what would be the point in paying them to make it?

It came out 14 years ago (sans the newer updates). I watched it when it first came in out in the USA on the Sundance channel. Before that it aired on BBC.

The guy who made this miniseries previously did Murder on a Sunday Morning which won an Oscar for best documentary.

I'm glad someone linked that Reddit post bc after I first watched it in 2004, I felt weird about the verdict until I looked online for information and then became pissed on how it was edited to make the viewer uneasy about the verdict by leaving out many damning pieces of evidence that was presented at trial.

A few days ago it came out that Michael Peterson was banging the editor.

Wow, lol female editor got's problems. Feel like I get duped by the editing and portrayal almost every time on these things going in blind. Staircase and MaM bias towards not guilty got me (even though a lot of reasonable doubt and prosecution misconduct there). Jinx bias towards guilty, seems strong, but haven't looked into it.

I’m drawing a blank on recommendations. Amerikans was pretty awesome and just wrapped.

Mad men is a standard.

Vikings is actually well written and well acted.

Idk....

Deadwood of course if you never watched it, and are willing to be upset it was cancelled...

You have lots of great shows to watch. Enjoy!

I did not finish the first episode. I think there were too many other shows at the same time, and Ozark was just ‘meh’.

Maybe I should give it a shot.

Ozark did a fine job filling in for the lack of brutal crime shows on TV. Its better when thought of a dark comedy. I loved it. Can't wait for season 2.

Enjoyed Ozark well enough. I wouldn’t necessarily call it great, but it contains a horrible use of deus ex machina at one point.

Yeah... I don't take that reddit post as gospel either, along with the doc, it's just a fascinating case with bullet points for both sides.

Ozark was good, I like Bateman tho.

Jinx is the GOAT documentary, for anything to be better would need the filmmaker to actually solve the crime and catch the perp in a high speed chase while wearing a gopro bodycam.

I'm 5 episodes into The Staircase but just stopped watching. I can understand why people would enjoy it but I found nearly everyone in it insufferable. Him, his ex wife, the prosecutor. Urgh I hate them all so had nobody to root for. Also it gets a very high rating and I just was pretty underwhelmed by it. Soooo slow. I actually skipped everyone's posts about it as I don't want to even know if he was found guilty, that's how annoying the show was for me. Also it just reinforced what an unfair system the legal process is for poor people. Blah.

Hey, I am liking Ozark. Thanks.

It must have just been overlooked. I get that it is a generally implausible scenario, and that there will be some equally unlikely turns in the story. I’m on episode 3.

yeah. I undeerstand why the director steered toward guilty. with MaM and Staircase you can see things online actually giving out more informtation. hwoever in roberts case, nobody , even internet detectives have been able to make a case for defending him other than strong coincidence.

JINX is amust watch if u like MaM been saying it for 2 years now to people ITT

Amazon Prime currently streams Thief with James Caan.

Michael Mann's first movie; I love me some Michael Mann (let's pretend Blackhat didn't happen, tho).

Highly recommended if you haven't seen before.
