Evil Genius has a pretty strong start with mystery, diabolical premeditation and law enforcement left baffled. I didn’t remember hearing about this at all when it occurred

I watched the first episode of Evil Genius and I just want the spoilers. The characters are too uninteresting and dull imho.

LA 92 is a really amazing documentary on the LA Riots.

I've never understood the fascination of jail shows. every episode is the same. boring, depressing, uninteresting.

The woman already finished it, I just thought it had a good hook to start. We also liked making a murderer and mindhunter so it may appeal more to that audience.

People vs OJ is ok after 2 episodes although Travolta and Ross have like a competition for worse acting in the history of TV.

Armstrong is definitely an...interesting character.

A friend of a friend was in a group of mensa members with Rothstein, who apparently was insanely intelligent, no matter how many stupid decisions he made.

Had a bunch of questions not answered by the doc, though

I have one more episode but I think it is good. IDK what desicions he made that were that stupid in the end, he was cleared. I still can't believe they cleared Rothstein as a suspect. The Van not being brought up again and the snitch letters I will chaulk up to the fact there were too many different agencies involved and things were forgotten(the van) or just purposely withheld(letters).

Armstrong denying things and then admitting to them but for different reasons like the driving on freeway and making phone call from gas station reminds me of an old Alec Baldwin SNL skit.

Why did Bill make the original phone call to police? That's my big question

Spoiler:

Claiming 3 black guys put the bomb on his neck is idiotic. Nobody gonna believe that. Having the meeting point by their house. Thinking the bank has $250k. Not just killing the FIL outright to get the inheritance. The bomb wasn’t actually complicated. Calling police to admit to freezer body.

They really don’t seem very smart. Just poor white trash.

This series and making of a murderer are great motivation to avoid flyover states.

Just finished Wild Wild Country. Very interesting watch. I lived near a commune of them when I was growing up. The most distinctive thing I remember about them, apart from the clothing, was that they appeared extremely happy and were a really friendly bunch and would pretty much dance/jump up and down anywhere and everywhere.

I'll add not even having the bomb last long enough to possibly complete the course/get them the $

for those of u who have watched first 2 and ahalf episodes of evil genius

Spoiler:
I dont want to bash the feds or sound like an arrogant know it all, but its absolutely mind boggling rothstein didn't get shaken down more. like, its beyond absurd. feds got ****ing had so hard by him.
most of hte info they needed was already there to begin with in a way.

I understand you have to prove stuff in the court of law, so maybe i would be open to 3rd partiy sanctioned by govt to be involved, able ot push some boundaries. of course not like the wild wild west casino mobster enforcement way, but some kind of 3rd party to really push a TRY fora case when you have such strong suspicion with some air of credibility
Spoiler:
that bill rothstein was in some way involved and its > 60% he was in some way

Evil genius was great.

I remember being so fascinated with the crime when it happened. It was a crime out of a movie. Pizza guy is forced to rob a bank wearing a collar bomb. Doesn't get much more bizzare then that. And then he blows up basically begging for his life in front of police, while cameras capture it all.

I totally lost track of the story years later.

Such an interesting cast of characters.

It's just always so strange to me how a cast like that comes together.

3 episodes into Wild Wild Country and like everyone has said, its great. What I find a bit weird is that (so far at least) they don't really tell us anything about Osho. Nothing about his early life backstory or how he came to be in a position to have such influence over so many people while in India. And so far really nothing about wtf he's spending all his time doing once everything had been moved to Oregon.

Also, I really really want someone to slap the **** out of that smug arrogant ***** Sheela!

^^ I read that the major critique of the doc by former members of the group was that there was no focus on Osho himself or the positive aspects of Rajneesh life. Also they didn’t like how much of the documentary focused on Sheela, and that to the members who spent their lives in the group, it seemed a much smaller deal than it obviously was.

I too despised Sheela, at least until the very end when I felt she showed some small signs of being capable of compassion.

Evil Genius - 81/100. I know it’s “just” a crazy story about some crazy people, but it’s a CRAZY story, and I don’t think that the fact that some of these people were just damaged takes away from the quality of the series. I was completely engrossed until the end and would probably watch it again, which I don’t say about too many of these types of series. I had fun trying to discern between her cunning and her insanity.
