(I don't deny that the footage was shot "behind the scenes" in 1999ish.)
Yea I was wrong (probably). I liked Jim & Andy quite a bit and would recommend to anyone interested in:

- Jim Carrey
- Andy Kaufman
- "Method" acting
- Behind-the-scenes footage with divas or stuff going wrong
- Hollywood
- The Playboy Mansion

That trailer is bad though, I still defend my initial impressions of it. Conveys a different tone than what the movie really is, for me it was off-putting.

If parts of the behind the scenes stuff is "staged" it doesn't matter because it all makes sense with the subject matter.

Agreed. The entire season six is basically three episodes worth of stuff.

I just watched "Cuba and The Cameraman." It's a documentary where the filmmaker visits Cuba many times over the course of 40 years. He was able to film and interview Fidel and spent time with multiple Cuban families throughout the 4 decades. It was really fascinating to see the same people at various points in their lives, see the things that changed & what stayed the same.

Highly recommend this documentary.

*Off topic but I was in Cuba for the 1st time 3 weeks ago. I have a better understanding of the people after watching this. I don't feel so bad about getting ripped off by the taxis (I'm a nit for life) or the people constantly trying to sell you something. When talking with my host, they downplayed everything. Maybe it was so I didn't feel sorry for them or maybe it was because they didn't want to speak poorly about the government. Now I know because they are in the tourist industry, they are much better off than the average Cuban.

Watched the 1st few episodes of the doc series "Shot in the dark" which follows a group of "stringers" freelance video guys who listen to police scanners and try to be 1st on the scene of accidents, fires, crimes etc. It's basically the real life version of that film "Nightcrawlers" from a few years ago.

The end of the 1st episode blew me away. I was sickened by the sense of dread that came over me knowing what was likely to happen and realizing that it was real life and not some scene from a movie.

Even "the good guys" in this show are despicable. The most polite word I can come up with for them is vultures.

two doc's I watched this week that were solid -

Saving Capitalism - Reich is a very smart and very short man.

Five Came Back - about famous American filmmakers going oversee's to document WW2. Spielbergo is one of the interviewee's.

I'm liking Mindhunter. This big Kemper guy is hilarious, even by serial killer standards.

I've got to get back on this show. I am not good at multitasking TV shows on netflix. Still have to finish Big Mouth, Stranger Things, and Mindhunter. I agree with you that Kemper is the best part of the show.

ya the show is great, fascinating topic and beautifully filmed.
all the stringers are absurdly unlikeable for various reasons.

also hate how they felt compelled to make up bull **** drama away from the actual stringing, just show us the action it's more than enough.

Shot in the Dark is for sure a fascinating watch. I agree that the stringers are despicable and unlikable yet I couldn't stop watching.

I just discovered that somehow I have an HBO subscription through Amazon Prime. Just finished Westworld and GoT seasons 6 and 7, anything else? I've seen most of the heavy hitters that have been out for a while and not behind a paywall, like The Wire, Sopranos, Oz, etc.

How did you discover this? Is HBO standard for all Prime accounts?

True Detective season 1 is excellent. Each season is a separate story, don't bother with season 2.

You are certainly paying for HBO unless it's an oversight. You can get a free 7 day trial with Amazon Prime then after that they bill you. I know because I pay for it.

HBO shows to watch:
1. Curb Your Enthusiam
2. The Night Of
3. The Duece
4. Rome

All very good shows that I recommend to everyone.

doesn't prime video have all of HBO's back catalog up to 2 years in the past or something? Not sure if that would include GoT season 7, but I remember it having something like that.
